Weekday duck BBQ dinner with a toddler in Gwacheon: Deo Chadol
In short
Deo Chadol is a duck chadol (thin-sliced brisket) barbecue restaurant on Deutgol2-ro in Gwacheon, Gyeonggi, an easy dinner stop after a day at Seoul Land or Seoul Grand Park. On a weekday evening with a 29-month-old, the couple course for two was ordered by tablet and ran from grilled duck chadol to duck jumuleok (sweet and spicy stir-fried duck) and fried rice, alongside doenjang jjigae. Baby chairs wait at the entrance and the duck chadol is sliced thin enough to cook in seconds, so the toddler cleared a whole bowl of rice at Deo Chadol.

Weekend outings with a kid are always exciting, but there's always that nagging question hanging over you: 'what am I going to feed him for dinner tonight?'
A few days ago our cute 29-month-old had conjunctivitis and had to stay home for a full two weeks, haha. So I figured this was a nice-chance weekday, and we headed to Seoul Land to run around and have fun, then stopped by Deo Chadol, a duck chadol place famous around Gwacheon. (Successful weekday visit to Seoul Land with no crowds, successful dinner too!)
Here's the vivid rundown of a dinner so satisfying our kid cleared a whole bowl of rice.
Where Deo Chadol is and its hours: minutes from Seoul Land
Deo Chadol is at 5 Deutgol2-ro, 1st floor, Gwacheon-si, Gyeonggi-do, open Monday through Sunday from 11:00 to 21:30, with last order at 20:30. The route after a Seoul Land or Seoul Grand Park outing worked out really well.

After burning through all that energy at Seoul Land, our stomachs started sending hunger signals. We hurried over before our kid got too cranky. The building's soft, pretty lighting caught the eye from a distance.

Inside Deo Chadol: dining room, baby chairs and the self-serve bar
Walking into Deo Chadol's Gwacheon branch, a clean, pleasant interior greeted us. Being a well-known spot that's appeared on TV multiple times, the walls were covered with celebrity autographs and broadcast panels.

I'd heard there could be a wait on weekend evenings, so we hurried over a bit early, but the place is spacious with good table turnover, so we settled in comfortably. Especially near the entrance, a stack of cute pink baby chairs was ready to go — it really showed thoughtful attention to families visiting with kids. We got our kid safely seated and started ordering at ease.
We checked out the self-serve bar. At a glance it was clearly kept clean, which was reassuring.

Ordering the Deo Chadol couple course for two was easy through the tablet installed at every table!

Grilled duck chadol, thin enough to cook fast for a toddler
Finally the main event, grilled duck chadol, arrived! Along with the vivid, fresh red duck chadol, the grill was loaded with fresh water dropwort, mushrooms, and onion. Being thin-sliced chadol, it sizzled and cooked in no time. Being able to grill it fast for our hungry toddler was honestly the best thing, from a parent's point of view.
Fresh lettuce and perilla leaves, fragrant water dropwort, salty-spicy green onion kimchi, crunchy and savory cabbage salad,

plus pickled perilla leaves, garlic, ssamjang, and every kind of sauce (salt, pepper, special sauce) were all fully stocked. There were plenty of side dishes that paired well with the meat, so we could add whatever suited our taste.

What our 29-month-old actually ate at Deo Chadol
The well-grilled duck chadol was thin and soft enough that our 29-month-old had no trouble chewing it at all. Mixed with rice, it was so savory that our kid munched away happily. We also mixed in the tofu and broth from the doenjang jjigae we'd ordered, and just like that, another full bowl of rice was gone.

The combo of chewy, savory duck chadol and fragrant water dropwort was truly excellent.

The adults dipped duck chadol, along with the water dropwort, onion, and mushrooms grilled golden in the oil, into the special sauce, or wrapped it in lettuce with pickled perilla leaves and green onion kimchi.
Round two: duck jumuleok in a sweet and spicy sauce
After the plain grilled duck chadol settled our stomachs, round two arrived: duck jumuljeok with its gorgeous red seasoning. Crunchy cabbage, green onion, and mushrooms were tossed with the duck meat in the special sauce and sizzled away on the grill.

After the first round of chadol, when the jumuljeok came out, our kid went 'Whoa!' in surprise, haha. I got hungry all over again too, from the sweet-spicy smell of the sauce soaking into the meat. Taking a bite, it was just the right amount of spicy with an addictive, mouth-coating flavor — truly a work of art.

Piling duck jumuljeok onto a wrap leaf with pungent garlic and green onion kimchi felt like it melted all my stress away. We ate the rice cake and sweet potato that cooked first, then the meat, and then asked for fried rice!

Finishing with fried rice and the crispy scorched layer
They stir-fried the rice, loaded with savory seaweed flakes, crunchy kimchi, and lettuce, on the grill with the leftover sauce. And that crispy bottom layer scraped off the grill — the crunch mixed with the spicy sauce flavor was truly a spontaneous 'work of art' moment.

Why Deo Chadol works for a dinner out with a toddler
We were too full, so we packed up the leftover fried rice and meat and enjoyed it again the next day. After running around Seoul Land, Deo Chadol turned out to be the best dinner spot, satisfying everyone from a 29-month-old to the adults.
It felt great watching our kid eat so well, and the adults got to fully enjoy the full course, from grilled chadol to jumuljeok to fried rice. If you're planning a trip to Gwacheon or Seoul Land, I strongly recommend stopping by for dinner!
