Korean BBQ restaurant in Gwacheon: flower rib beef 320g at Najumyeonok
In short
Najumyeonok Gwacheon Branch is a Blue Ribbon Korean BBQ restaurant on Chanumul-ro, near Gwacheon Government Complex Station in Gyeonggi. The meal was two servings of flower rib beef (kkotgalbisal), 320g, grilled at the table with tidy side dishes such as ganjang gejang (soy-marinated raw crab) and yeolmu nabak kimchi, plus the seonjiguk (ox blood soup) that comes free with every meat order. Since I'm obsessed with Jeolla-do (South Korea's southwestern region) food and travel there often just to eat, I've come to blindly trust any restaurant with a Jeolla place name in its title, haha. That's exactly how I ended up at Najumyeonok in Gwacheon — and now I totally get why it's already a Blue Ribbon favorite in the neighborhood, haha.

What we ordered at Najumyeonok Gwacheon Branch

The side dishes: a hanjeongsik-level spread

The banchan (side dishes) at Najumyeonok Gwacheon Branch were as neat and delicious as at a proper hanjeongsik restaurant. My boyfriend cleaned every single plate — the seasoning was so well-balanced, mild yet so tasty!

Mild, refreshing, savory baechu kimchi (napa cabbage kimchi). The seasoning was so precise, every dish really tasted like it came from a hanjeongsik specialist!

Refreshing lotus root salad with a hint of yuzu.

Yeolmu nabak kimchi (young radish water kimchi) — even the broth was so cool, tangy, and genuinely delicious. >.<

A whole soy-marinated crab (ganjang gejang) comes free
Najumyeonok Gwacheon Branch also serves ganjang gejang (soy marinated crab) as a free side. It's a small samjeom crab, but it comes whole! And the meat was plump and full. Even the soy sauce base wasn't salty at all — genuinely surprised me. You know how the best hanjeongsik places serve ganjang gejang that's deep and rich but never too salty? This was exactly that texture and flavor. Najumyeonok is basically a ganjang gejang spot too!

Plenty of Korean BBQ places skip the lettuce wraps, so I was happy to see them included here!

Seonjiguk, the ox blood soup included with meat orders
Order any meat menu at Najumyeonok Gwacheon Branch and seonjiguk (ox blood soup) comes free. So generous, right? Honestly, having a soup like this while eating grilled beef is such a great combo.
Even before the main dish arrived, the table was already packed. >.< There were even three big chunks of ox blood in it. The broth was on the lighter, cleaner side rather than thick and heavy, yet still had depth... a perfectly balanced seonjiguk to pair with beef that can otherwise get greasy.
How did the 320g flower rib beef taste?
Today's main was Najumyeonok Gwacheon Branch's flower rib beef (kkotgalbisal), 2 servings, 320g. My boyfriend's absolute favorite cut of beef, haha.

2 servings at 320g and the portion was pretty generous, right?! My grilling-expert boyfriend put the flower rib beef on the pan and got to work, haha.
Once it was nicely browned, we cut it into bite-sized pieces. First bite plain, no sauce! Wow — it had just enough marinade to bring out deep umami, plus that grilled aroma soaked all the way through, so savory and delicious. You could feel the signature chewy texture of galbisal, and the marbling brought all that rich beef fat too. >.<

Sipping seonjiguk between bites of grilled beef was so good! The broth was refreshing, and it was loaded with vegetables that cut right through the richness.

We also dipped the beef in the sesame sauce, then in the salt — delicious either way. The flower rib beef at Najumyeonok worked with everything. We even dipped it into the ganjang gejang shell. haha, the ocean flavor blended in perfectly. haha

Last but not least, wrapped up in lettuce with the veggies for one big bite.
Would I go back to Najumyeonok Gwacheon Branch?
Every single side dish at Najumyeonok was so neat and delicious — a very satisfying meal! It's clearly popular enough to have a wait even on weekdays. >.< Next time I want to try the pork galbi and naengmyeon (cold noodles).
