Gwacheon duck restaurant: grilled duck then spicy stir-fry, Deo Chadol

In short

Deo Chadol is a duck chadol (thin-sliced duck brisket) restaurant on Dwitgol2-ro in Gwacheon, Gyeonggi. Two diners ordered the Deo Chadol couple course — 200g grilled duck chadol, 300g raw duck jumulleok (spicy marinated stir-fry), doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) and self-serve fried rice — and ate it in that order. Comparing the plain grilled duck with the spicy marinated duck in one sitting made the couple course a filling, well-balanced meal for two.

Looking for good duck in Gwacheon, I ended up at Deo Chadol's Gwacheon main branch.

Gwacheon has plenty of outing spots — Seoul Land, Seoul Grand Park, the National Science Museum — so you're always on the hunt for somewhere to eat nearby. This time I tried Deo Chadol's couple course, which lets you work through duck chadol BBQ, raw duck spicy stir-fry, doenjang jjigae, and fried rice all in one sitting.

I like duck in general, so I came in with high expectations — and getting two different duck dishes in one course made this a great pick for a couple or a two-person visit.

What kind of restaurant is Deo Chadol in Gwacheon?

Deo Chadol is a duck chadol specialty restaurant in Gwacheon-dong. It's a handy stop when you're already out at Seoul Land, Seoul Grand Park, or the National Science Museum.

There's parking right in front and group seating too, so it's good for family meals or bigger gatherings. We came as a party of two and ordered the Deo Chadol couple course.

What comes with the Deo Chadol couple course

The couple course we ordered comes with 200g duck chadol BBQ + 300g raw duck spicy stir-fry + doenjang jjigae + self-fried rice.

Even on the official menu, it's described as a course built for two people to try the restaurant's signature dishes at once. I'd wanted to try both the chadol BBQ and the spicy stir-fry, so being able to get both without ordering separately was great.

Grilled duck chadol: thin, lean and nutty

We started by grilling the duck chadol BBQ.

It's duck sliced thin like a regular beef chadolbagi (brisket) and grilled on the pan, so the look alone felt different. Being so thin, it cooked fast and was easy to eat, and it went nicely with the side accompaniments.

Deo Chadol's duck chadol BBQ is made by trimming raw duck in-house, flash-freezing it, then slicing it thin.

Even people who don't eat duck often should find this one pretty approachable, since the chadol style feels familiar.

Raw duck jumulleok, the spicy marinated course

After the duck chadol BBQ, we grilled the raw duck spicy stir-fry next.

Sauced raw duck stir-fry on the grill

Same duck, completely different vibe. The raw duck comes in a special sauce, so you get a savory depth from the seasoning, and it went really well with rice.

Eating the plain, savory chadol first and then moving on to the sauced stir-fry made for a fun comparison between the two flavors.

I think that's the appeal of the couple course — getting to enjoy two different duck styles instead of just one.

Doenjang jjigae that pairs well with the duck

A meal of grilled meat wouldn't feel complete without doenjang jjigae, and it came with the course too.

Sipping on the savory stew between bites paired nicely with the duck and went well with rice too. Having warm soup alongside made the meal feel much more filling than just eating meat the whole time.

Finishing with self-serve fried rice

And to finish it off — the self-fried rice, of course!

Finishing with fried rice after eating plenty of duck left us properly full. Frying the rice after the meat means it picks up all that flavor and leftover sauce, so it's delicious right to the last bite. Fried rice really is the best way to end a meat meal, haha.

Eating in the order of duck chadol BBQ → raw duck spicy stir-fry → doenjang jjigae → fried rice made for a satisfying, well-rounded meal for two.

A good dinner stop after Seoul Land or Seoul Grand Park

Is Deo Chadol in Gwacheon worth it? Final verdict

What I liked most about the Deo Chadol couple course was being able to enjoy both the duck chadol BBQ and the raw duck stir-fry in one visit. Alternating between the plain, savory chadol and the sauced stir-fry, then finishing with doenjang jjigae and self-fried rice, made for a pretty hearty meal for two.

I'd recommend this to anyone looking for good duck in Gwacheon, searching for restaurants near Seoul Land or Seoul Grand Park, or wanting a filling meal after an outing. Next time I visit Gwacheon, I'd like to try some of Deo Chadol's other duck dishes too :)
