Summer pollack mulhoe at a Jeonpo-dong Korean restaurant: Hyangtaek
In short
Hyangtaek Jeonpo Branch is a neat Korean restaurant on Seojeon-ro in Busanjin-gu, Busan, halfway between Seomyeon and Jeonpo stations. On a weekend return visit at 7pm with her boyfriend, the writer ordered the summer-only pollack mulhoe (chilled raw pollack soup) at 16,000 won and the eggplant doenjang rice bowl at 13,000 won, and enjoyed both — the mulhoe came under a layer of ice slush, the eggplant bowl with kelp vinegar. For healthy Korean home-style cooking around Seomyeon or Jeonpo, Hyangtaek Jeonpo Branch is the answer.

Hyangtaek Jeonpo Branch sits right between Seomyeon and Jeonpo stations. It's a tidy Korean spot known around Jeonpo, and the entrance already gives off a polished, upscale feel.

What is Hyangtaek Jeonpo like at 7pm on a weekend, and can you eat alone?
When she visited at 7pm on a weekend, the place was packed with diners. It's a good Korean restaurant for family meals, but plenty of people come here for friends, dates, or an easy solo meal too — it's that kind of Seomyeon-Jeonpo spot.

She first came here alone a few months ago and enjoyed the neatly served food so much that this time she brought her boyfriend for a repeat visit. The staff are friendly too 👍🏻

The neat table setting came out quickly. Just looking at it feels healthy! If you're looking for a healthy Korean spot around Seomyeon or Jeonpo, you won't regret coming to Hyangtaek.

Eggplant doenjang rice bowl, 13,000 won: kelp vinegar makes it taste like mazesoba
This is the eggplant doenjang rice bowl she ordered! As a kid she wouldn't touch eggplant because of the texture, but these days eggplant is so good haha. She'd had this bowl on her last visit and the memory of it pulled her back.

The eggplant in the bowl has precise scoring cuts, plus rice, green onion, savory doenjang, and ingredients that add a nice bite — she finished the whole bowl happily.

The eggplant bowl comes with kelp vinegar on the side. She ate the original doenjang version first, then mixed in the kelp vinegar partway through for a tangy, different flavor — it started to feel like eating mazesoba haha.

Summer-only pollack mulhoe, 16,000 won: ice slush broth with somen noodles
Hyangtaek's summer-only menu item — pollack hoe mulhoe (raw pollack cold soup)! Just looking at the icy broth cools you down. Summer feels like it won't end, so she got lucky catching this summer-only item. It comes with rice on the side haha.

She hasn't seen any other place around Seomyeon or Jeonpo serving raw-meat mulhoe. Recommended for anyone who loves pollack hoe mulhoe — Hyangtaek's summer-only special.

It comes piled high with raw beef and pollack. The cucumber, pear, and vegetables were also plated really neatly and prettily haha.

There's also a generous amount of thin noodles inside the mulhoe! Beyond the raw beef and pollack, she got to enjoy plenty of fresh vegetables and cool icy broth too.

Weekday review event at Hyangtaek Jeonpo: a free mushroom platter
There's also a weekday-only event where leaving a Naver receipt review gets you a free mushroom platter. If you're craving healthy Korean food around Seomyeon or Jeonpo on a weekday, come to Hyangtaek and try the mushroom platter for free — it's tasty haha.
