Beginner silver ring workshop in Seongdong, Seoul: Robenta Seongsu

I went on a slightly special date in Seongsu. A hands-on experience where you make your own silver ring! The place I visited was Robenta Seongsu. There are so many great restaurants and cafés in Seongsu these days, but I wanted to try a date that was a little different from the usual, so I chose a ring-making experience. Let me show you...!!

Can you make a silver ring without being handy?

When you hear that you will be making a ring yourself, your first thoughts are, “I’m not handy—will I be okay?” and “What if I mess it up?” haha. I was a little worried too, but once I tried it, it did not feel intimidating at all.

Robenta Seongsu is run by a jewelry designer with 30 years of experience, and the instructor showed me each step as I worked. What I especially loved was the one-on-one expert guidance!

They did not just tell me to figure it out alone from the start. They explained how to make it and kept helping so that I could do the work myself.

They praised me so much that I unexpectedly gained confidence and worked hard at filing my ring 💗

Filing and shaping the ring for about 45 minutes

The hands-on part took about 45 minutes?! I filed and shaped the silver ring myself, gradually creating its form. At first it was simply silver-colored material, so it was fascinating to watch it slowly become a ring.

I also took videos while making it. Seeing myself filing the ring on video, rather than just in photos, made the memories of that day feel vivid even when I watched them again later!

And here is an important point! The ring was not finished immediately after my roughly 45-minute hands-on session. After the experience, an expert did the final finishing and polishing. I was initially told it would take one to two hours, but it actually seemed to take around 30 minutes~

I liked that it did not end with only my part—the expert also handled the final finish, so I could receive a high-quality ring. While the ring was being finished, I went out and hung out at a Seongsu café haha. Seongsu has so many cafés, so I just made the ring, spent some time over a coffee at a café, and went back to pick it up!

The waiting time did not feel long at all, which was even better. You do not make it entirely by yourself from beginning to end, but the hands-on experience is combined with an expert’s delicate finishing, so I think it suits beginners better. Especially if you have been hesitating to visit a Seongsu ring workshop because you are not handy, I do not think you need to worry too much.

A finished ring made extra special because I made it myself

The instructor stayed beside me, kept explaining things, helped right away if I made a mistake, and gave me lots of praise, so I could enjoy the experience in a comfortable atmosphere. When I received the finished ring, it felt different from simply buying a ring because I had made it myself!

It would be nice to make couple rings for an anniversary or special day, or to come with friends or family and each make a meaningful ring.
