Today's spot is Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo Bansang at Iho Tewoo, Jeju. I don't usually grill fish much at home — I only fire up mackerel once in a while for my growing kid — but it turns out there was a place this good near our house all along! 🥹

A new grilled fish restaurant right in front of Iho Tewoo Beach, open since July

Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo Bansang Jeju Iho Tewoo Branch is a fresh new spot that just opened — a warm July debut! I come to Iho Tewoo for walks often, and now there's a gorgeous grilled fish restaurant right on the water~~~

My daughter was so excited to eat out after daycare pickup haha. The beach is right in front, perfect for a walk before or after the meal. We had dinner, took a walk, then went to a café for another drink..🥲ㅋㅋ

Where to park at Hwadeogeuro Gan? Basement level 1, straight up to the first floor

In we went, hair flying in the wind. There's parking on the ocean side and a wide lot behind the building too — no need to stress about parking!

The parking lot is on basement level 1, so as soon as we came up to the first floor, the restaurant was right there.

A 5:30pm reservation, with sunset at the end of the meal

The interior was quite spacious with plenty of seats, and the tables were well spread out, so it was comfortable to eat. Such an ocean-view restaurant 🖤 We had booked for 5:30pm, and by the time we finished eating we caught a stunning sunset too ㅎ.

High chair and utensils for a 36-month-old

This place is so good to bring kids to — no wonder they had plenty of high chairs ready. There wasn't separate kids' tableware, but they did bring out a spoon and fork set for her!

We took a table further inside with my daughter. I wanted a seat facing the ocean, but sadly those were already all taken.

Unlimited fried eggs at the self-serve bar, plus side dish and rice refills

You can fry your own eggs, unlimited, at the self-serve bar. Our household's egg fiends went straight for the fried eggs first ㅋㅋㅋㅋ

All the side dishes are refillable yourself! Rice too, and there's roasted rice tea (sungnyung) ready as well.

The food came out a little late, but here's what happened

Between frying eggs and watching the ocean, the food finally arrived. Honestly it took a little while to come out — seems like something was going on in the kitchen. Later the owner came out to apologize for the wait and gave our daughter a tangerine juice as a gift. 🍊

What does the wood-fired grilled mackerel set taste like?

Worth every minute of the wait. The side dishes paired so well with the grilled fish, and dipping a well-grilled piece of mackerel in soy sauce was really something.

Maybe because it's grilled in a wood-fired oven, the skin was crispy and the flesh was soft! Mackerel is our family's favorite fish ㅎㅎㅎ and this was just as delicious as ever 👍🏻

The spicy pork stir-fry ordered on the side

We ordered spicy pork stir-fry too, worried mackerel alone might get boring. The seasoning was rich and the meat was tender. Wrapped in lettuce... man, the best!

The mackerel had so much flesh that even sharing with my daughter, more kept coming ㅋㅋㅋㅋ

Dip it in this soy sauce with wasabi.

Pickled garlic and chili from the self-serve bar. Eating it with the spicy pork stir-fry was such a great combo 👍🏻

Did the 36-month-old actually eat well?

"Mom, it's yummy~" 🖤 my daughter said, polishing off a whole meal of japchae, fried eggs, and mackerel.

Wrapping both the spicy pork and mackerel in lettuce doubled the flavor!

And that's how... the mackerel... ended up as nothing but bones.

Why Hwadeogeuro Gan at Iho Tewoo works for dinner with a toddler

We stepped out to find the sun setting — such a gorgeous view 🥰 The main grilled mackerel dish was so delicious, and the basic side dishes paired so well that the rice just kept going down. The owner was kind and the interior was clean, making this a solid pick to visit with kids! Next time I'd like to come back and try one of the other grilled fish dishes.
