I went to Urban Trend Sanbon, well-known for men's iron perms in Sanbon, Gunpo. My husband tried an iron perm for the very first time, and spoiler alert: it was a total success :) Let's get right into the review!

Hair and scalp check before the iron perm
We got the iron perm from director Junho at Urban Trend Sanbon! Before starting the actual perm, he shampooed my husband's hair and carefully checked its condition. He looked closely at the scalp too and worked out the best approach for my husband, which really built trust! It clearly wasn't just following a fixed routine — you could tell he was adjusting based on the actual hair and scalp condition.
How the perm solution is applied, section by section
The director applied the solution carefully, watching the hair condition as he went. Instead of applying everything at once, he applied it in sections with timing differences for the more damaged parts — that level of care built a lot of trust!
How does a men's iron perm actually work?
Now for the real highlight: the iron perm itself. Honestly this was my first time seeing an iron perm too — instead of wrapping hair around rods and leaving it like a regular rod perm, the stylist uses a heated iron to grab each strand and shape the curl and direction by hand.
That means the designer's hand skill really matters — I'd heard that if it's done poorly, hair can get damaged or even burnt. So I was a little worried, but after watching director Junho's technique, that worry disappeared completely.
He grabbed the hair section by section, adjusting the thickness and direction to shape each curl — all I could say was how meticulous it was.
Watching from the side, you could just feel the confidence in his fingertips. I really understood why he's known for iron perms in Sanbon!
Neutralizing, plus a full-body massage
After the iron perm, he neutralized the perm thoroughly, and my husband got to lie down and relax with a full-body massage the whole time.
Wow, getting pampered like this just for a haircut... so jealous... hahahaha. My husband kept raving that it was pure paradise, haha.
Finishing blow-dry and cut
After the iron perm, he finished off with a thorough blow-dry. The director explained at every step what stage we were at and why it was being done that way, so even watching from the side, it was easy to understand. It wasn't just about finishing the perm — he also carefully taught us how to style it nicely afterward, which was really helpful!
To finish, he trimmed the overall length and shape with a cut, and that was it!!
How the men's iron perm turned out
My husband had only ever gotten regular perms before, and the curl always fell out fast, which stressed him out — plus his seborrheic dermatitis meant a lot of scalp flaking. This time he said the iron perm felt totally different!! The volume and flow are natural without being too much, easy to style, and he said he thinks it'll hold up well for a long time!
