Why we chose JJ Republic Bundang for a custom suit

I had a commuting suit made at JJ Republic Seongnam, a custom suit shop in Bundang, Seongnam. My boyfriend and I have been together since college and been through everything from job hunting to working life together! Since he wears a suit to commute, he wanted something comfortable to wear every day.

He's also quite tall, so ready-made suits never quite fit — something was always too short or off. So we decided to just go custom, and that's how we ended up at JJ Republic Seongnam!

How to walk to JJ Republic Bundang from Jeongja Station Exit 5, and the shop inside

JJ Republic Seongnam is right there once you walk out of Jeongja Station Exit 5 and keep going straight! The window sign reading '₩590,000 for two suits' grabs your attention immediately, haha.

JJ Republic has three locations total — the Sinsa flagship, Bundang, and Ilsan Lafesta — and the great thing is all three are directly operated stores! JJ Republic isn't outsourced work; it's made through their own production line at headquarters in Sinsa-dong, Gangnam.

Inside, as you'd expect from a custom suit shop, there are tons of suits on display, plus two consultation tables — really nice! Since it was my first time at a custom suit shop, I was so excited, I felt like I was in Kingsman, haha.

Besides suits, they can also make custom tuxedos! The design is definitely different for tuxedos — that bow tie is so pretty! Also, JJ Republic doesn't have any partnership or contract with wedding planners!!

Here's the price list at JJ Republic Seongnam. I really loved that the pricing is transparent and openly displayed! I wondered how a custom suit could be this affordable and good value — turns out it's because they have their own production line at headquarters in Sinsa-dong, Gangnam, cutting out middleman markups and production costs to keep prices reasonable, haha.

Being able to get a custom suit at over 50% off is the definition of value!!❤️ They even offer the wedding package and British fabric at 63% off!! Amazing><😉

Just a heads up — an extra charge can apply if spandex is added during sizing!

They even throw in one necktie! Total value for money, seriously ㅠㅠ

Shirts can be made too, for an extra ₩40,000! It was surprising how many options there were for shirts too, haha.

Choosing a commuting suit fabric: the Prestige line

The first thing to do is pick the fabric! There are five main fabric types, and prices vary depending on the materials and composition.

When I told the owner, 'This is for commuting, so I want a fabric that wrinkles less even with frequent washing and holds up well,' he recommended a fabric that was a perfect match. I was worried he'd push something expensive, but not at all!! He recommended exactly what suited our needs, so we could get something made with great value. That's how we settled on 'Prestige,' haha.

There was even a description of Prestige written in Korean, which really boosted my trust in it!

The color range is huge too!! From black to brown to navy, from light tones to dark tones — everything's there, which made things easy!

My boyfriend wanted something in the brown family, so we mainly looked at brown tones!

And then we found my boyfriend's favorite — Yeonbam! He wanted a vivid brown, almost chestnut tone, and he picked it the moment he saw it. I was happy too, since I thought it would suit him really well><

Buttons, lining, lapel and vent: the custom suit details

Choosing the buttons

Next up was choosing the buttons! Even picking the buttons for the front of the suit — this really felt like the essence of custom tailoring, haha.

The owner recommended buttons to go with our chosen fabric! We debated between matte and glossy horn buttons and went with matte.

Choosing the lining: brown 7690

Next was choosing the lining that goes inside the suit. There were 14 lining colors to choose from, so there was plenty of room to reflect personal taste! Since our suit was in a chestnut tone, we chose the matching brown-family lining, '7690.'

Choosing the lapel

There's a choice between an upward-pointing lapel or one that falls downward. My boyfriend immediately chose the downward one! Since it's for wearing to work, going with the safer option was clearly the way to go, haha.

Single- or double-breasted?

Next comes choosing the breasted style. Simply put, single row of buttons vs. double row. Since this is for commuting, we chose single-breasted!

Choosing the back vent

Next, choosing the vent! Simply put, the vent refers to the slits at the back and sides of the jacket. Options were one back vent, two side vents, or none — we chose one back vent.

How the measuring session works

Now it's time for the actual size measurements!

After the sizing, you change into a shirt and slacks the owner gives you. And this isn't the end — it's just the beginning, haha.

The waist, hips, thighs, hem, and everything else got measured meticulously~~ Since each choice reflected my boyfriend's preferences, he was really satisfied!

Now the upper body measurements get taken in detail. Shoulders, sleeves, upper chest, mid-chest, jacket length — terms even I didn't know, hahaha. But it was nice seeing the owner and my boyfriend work well together to make good choices, haha.

My boyfriend was so cool~~ The choices were nearly done!! Since it was his first custom suit, he looked nervous yet excited, hahaha.

Production time and the return visit two weeks later

Finally, my boyfriend's size measurements were done! Everything was measured so carefully and recorded in such detail that it really built up anticipation for the finished suit><

They said production takes two weeks, and that we could come back after that for one more round of adjustments! Seeing them care so thoroughly from start to finish was really touching..❤️ I can't wait to see how it turns out in two weeks!
