Garlic bread to go in Danyang, reheated in 5 minutes: Danppang Bakery

In short

Danppang Bakery is a garlic bread bakery inside Gugyeong Market in Danyang, Chungbuk, and the first of the market's many garlic bread shops to open. On the way back from a day trip to Guinsa Temple, two boxes of the mixed set (4 flavors, 14,000 won) went home in the car, and one box was gone before the drive ended. Chilled leftovers crisped up like fresh-baked after just 5 minutes in the oven, which even a picky husband happily ate.

Garlic bread from Danppang Bakery in Danyang Gugyeong Market

Danyang Gugyeong Market after a day trip to Guinsa Temple

After a day trip to Guinsa where my husband and I did some not-quite-mindful "meditating," we figured — when would we ever come back here again (that's always my line) — so we stopped by Danyang Gugyeong Market. Walking around the market, I learned that Danyang is famous for garlic..! That explains why so many shops were selling garlic bread.

Since my husband and I are both crazy about garlic, we decided to pack some of the market's famous garlic bread to take home. Everyone was walking around carrying a box each, which made us super curious.

Browsing the market, light on our feet but heavy with bags ~

Danppang Bakery hours and when the garlic bread comes out

The place is called Danppang Bakery, open daily from 10:30 to 21:00 (last order 19:30). Bread comes out starting at 10:30, and they close early once ingredients run out. Everyone was walking around with a box each, which made us so curious ˶˙ᵕ˙˶ !

Line of customers waiting in front of Danppang Bakery

When we arrived, everyone was already in line, so we jumped right in. Once a fresh batch comes out, the line clears fast — but somehow it's just as long again a moment later, magically. There were several garlic bread shops around the market, but this was the very first one to open! It's even been on TV. And the plain, unpretentious name suits the cozy vibe of Gugyeong Market so well.

Why Danyang is known for garlic

I wondered why Danyang garlic specifically — turns out it's sweeter than regular garlic! Danyang sits on limestone terrain, rich in the minerals and nutrients garlic needs to grow well.

Cream cheese garlic bread from Danppang Bakery

That's the cream cheese garlic bread from Danppang Bakery, the go-to spot in Danyang Gugyeong Market! Spoiler alert: this was my favorite of the bunch.

Skilled hands, flashy technique. When I got mine later there wasn't that seasoning-looking coating, but whatever it was, one thing's clear — this bread starts with garlic and ends with garlic.

Which garlic breads Danppang Bakery sells

There's a new item: sweet potato custard garlic bread. After trying everything, honestly it was all delicious, so this one had me curious too.

Salt bread from Danppang Bakery

On top of their usual lineup, they've now expanded into salt bread too. If you're a salt bread fan, this might be worth checking out!

Close-up of moist-looking garlic bread

What in the world is this..♡ The bread was so moist and delicious — the ingredients seem simple, but the flavor is way too good.

Is this what mastery looks like? Watching live. That cream cheese, which looks almost like whipped cream, looked incredibly delicious.

Two packed boxes of garlic bread

We packed two boxes, and the loaves were no joke in size. Up close, the fillings looked even more generous, which made us so happy..♡♡ Buying the mixed gift set even gets you a discount, so it's a total recommendation!! See the pretty scenery, grab some delicious bread, and head home ㄱㄱ~

How two boxes of garlic bread became one

About how we started with 2 boxes and ended up with 1.. the garlic smell kept wafting through the car, so we kept snacking, and one whole box just disappeared like that. We saved the other in the fridge to eat the next morning, and when we took it out, the smell was insane -

Cross-section of garlic bread packed with cream

Garlic seasoning coats the entire loaf, so even with all that cream packed inside, the fragrant garlic scent never gets buried.

Inside of the sweet potato custard garlic bread

This one seems like something kids would love! And the highlight across all these breads is the little garlic bits you bite into here and there..♡

Baguette garlic bread topped with garlic crunch

Baguette garlic bread and black garlic cream cheese garlic bread

The baguette's crispiness was so good, and with no cream, it felt light and clean to eat. Still, the garlic scent came through clearly! Those crunchy dried garlic bits scattered through it had a great taste and texture too. It didn't stick to your teeth, wasn't sweet, and felt like pure crisply dried garlic — really tasty.

Cross-section of black garlic bread

And the black garlic bread had that subtle, distinctive black garlic aroma — since we're not picky, we enjoyed it just as much.

Reheating Danppang Bakery garlic bread: 5 minutes in the oven

The bread stayed moist, so even my picky-eater husband said it was good and ate happily. I thought two boxes might be too much for the two of us, but somehow we'd nearly finished it all by morning. Just 5 minutes in the oven brings it right back to crisp, fresh-baked texture.

Seeing my husband enjoy it so much made me feel like I picked well! That's a wrap on Danppang Bakery, the go-to garlic bread spot at Danyang Gugyeong Market.
