6:30pm queue for garlic bread at Danppang Bakery in Danyang
In short
Danppang Bakery is a takeout-only garlic bread bakery inside Gugyeong Market in Danyang, Chungbuk. Visiting at 6:30pm with her parents-in-law, the writer bought two boxes of the 4-flavor set at 14,000 won each and opened them back at the guesthouse, rating the cream cheese garlic bread and the black garlic cream cheese the best while the sweet potato custard was sweet enough to get cloying. The queue at Danppang Bakery looks long but moves quickly because the bread is already on display and packed on the spot, so it is worth the wait.

I went on a trip to Danyang with my in-laws and stopped by the famous Gugyeong Market. It felt wrong to leave without buying anything, so I went to the most famous spot, Danppang Bakery, haha. Let's take a look at this Danyang Gugyeong Market restaurant that's also a great place to visit in Danyang!
Danppang Bakery hours, parking, and is it takeout only?
Danppang Bakery is open daily from 10am to 9pm, with last order at 7:30pm. And Danppang Bakery is takeout only.
Danppang Bakery has appeared on live evening broadcasts and other feature shows, so it's genuinely a famous spot.
It's located inside the market, so you're supposed to park at a nearby public parking lot, but we were staying at Sono Vell Danyang, so we walked about 20 minutes to get there, haha.
Since Danppang Bakery is takeout only, most people on the way were carrying boxes in their hands. We got there a bit late, around 6:30, and there were still tons of people.

There really seem to be a lot of great restaurants at Danyang Gugyeong Market, haha.
How long is the queue at Danppang Bakery at 6:30pm?

The sign was pretty cute once we got there. And the waiting line here was seriously no joke. A famous place really is different. Other shops had lines too, but this one had a wait no matter what time we went. Even the next morning when we passed by nearby, there was still a line...
Still, because they hand you the bread that's already displayed, the line moves pretty fast. Most people bought 2-3 boxes at a time.

If you buy as a set, you can also get 2 cream cheese + 2 baguette pieces for 13,000 won.

Danyang garlic is famous, you know.

With that famous garlic stuffed into the baguette, need I say more... They make it fresh in real time like this, and they also just pack up what's already displayed.
What comes in the 14,000 won 4-flavor set at Danppang Bakery
First, here's how the menu is structured.

Usually people get the 4-flavor set, which includes baguette, black garlic cream cheese, cream cheese, and sweet potato custard garlic bread. The 4-flavor set is the safest choice, and at 14,000 won it's cheaper than buying each one separately.

Since they're making batches like this inside, the line moves quickly and the smell of garlic bread was really strong. No wonder it's one of the top restaurants at Danyang Gugyeong Market.

Opening two boxes at the guesthouse: four garlic breads compared
We came back to our hotel and opened up the 2 boxes.

I'm seriously obsessed with cream cheese, so cream cheese collaborating with garlic bread — how could that not be delicious? We couldn't finish it all at the hotel, so I brought the rest home and enjoyed it there too.
First up: sweet potato custard garlic bread

The color alone already looks delicious.
The custard filling inside was really generous. But I did think this one could get a bit much if you kept eating it. The sweet potato custard is sweet and tasty, but it's so sweet you could get sick of it a little... But right away, the next one!
Second: cream cheese garlic bread

This one has thick, rich cream cheese in it. My husband raved that this was the tastiest bread. If you like sweet things or cream cheese, this is a bread you'll find really harmonious. The thick cheese covering the garlic bread made it quite delicious to eat, haha.
Third: black garlic cream cheese

Honestly, I liked this one even more. Sure, there wasn't a huge difference from the regular cream cheese, but it had a slightly more mellow feel? So on the first bite I thought, oh, this is better than expected.
Last: baguette garlic bread

This one comes sliced into pieces you can eat one at a time. So it's easy to eat, but after eating the cream cheese ones, it felt a bit plain in comparison.
Everything tastes better if you run it through the air fryer, but when I did, it got a little dry, ugh.
Verdict: is Danppang Bakery worth the wait?
With all that cream cheese, it might get a bit rich, but this was garlic bread that all of us agreed was delicious. There are a lot of great restaurants at Danyang Gugyeong Market, but grabbing takeout from the famous Danppang Bakery lets you experience the garlic aroma and a unique flavor, so I recommend it as worth trying even with the wait!
