If you're in Jeju, chewy sweet shrimp sashimi and fresh mackerel sashimi are a must! Looking for a place to enjoy both together, generously and at a reasonable price, I visited Tamra Hansang (탐라한상), a local favorite in Seogwipo that I'd already bookmarked while planning my Seogwipo itinerary. Here's my honest review of a spot that nails both freshness and value for money.

Where to park at Tamra Hansang: The M Hotel outdoor lot
For parking at Tamra Hansang, use the outdoor lot at The M Hotel diagonally across from the restaurant. The restaurant covers the parking fee, so I could eat without any worries.
If you're driving, parking is probably the first thing on your mind... The street right in front of the restaurant is narrow with limited spots. But The M Hotel's lot is wide and open, so parking is easy. It's just a few steps from the lot to the restaurant, so it's easy to find too!

The exterior is a clean, modern single-story building. The full glass front gives it an open, airy feel rather than feeling closed in. Photos of the main menu items are posted right on the front of the building, so I could decide what to order before even walking in.

Saturday 1pm visit: dining room and seating at Tamra Hansang
I visited Tamra Hansang around 1pm on a Saturday, and luckily it was relatively quiet, so I could enjoy a relaxed, comfortable meal. Apparently it's a hot spot in Seogwipo that gets packed in the evenings. Dodging peak hours made for a nicely relaxed meal.

The interior is overall clean and cozy. The tables are spaced generously, with plenty of large group tables — great for families or gatherings.
There's also group seating on the 2nd floor, so groups or travelers with larger parties can visit without worry. Everything was kept very clean overall.

Ordering is done via a tablet installed at the table, which was super convenient.

Braised mackerel set for two at 60,000 won: the side dishes first
Milk Couple's order — braised mackerel set for two, ₩60,000
Even before the main dish arrived, the neatly arranged side dishes already had me satisfied.

Seaweed salad, well-fermented kimchi.
Spicy pepper-onion soy sauce to eat with the mackerel sashimi, a crunchy salad.
Refreshing cucumber salad, rice-thief anchovy stir-fry.
Seaweed and grilled pork belly to wrap the mackerel sashimi in.

The salty seasoned shrimp was perfect for whetting the appetite. The shrimp had a chewy texture and no fishy taste at all — delicious.

The fried cutlassfish was so good. Not greasy at all, and the combination with the special sauce was really great — it disappeared the moment it hit the table.
Sashimi as a free side dish? Sweet shrimp, mackerel, cutlassfish and flounder
Here's the real plot twist — the shocking part! This gorgeous sashimi platter I'm about to show you isn't even the main dish — it's a standard side dish!! Can you believe it?!

₩60,000 for two people is already surprising, but I was truly amazed that the standard sides alone included Jeju's finest seafood — sweet shrimp sashimi, incredibly savory mackerel sashimi, shimmering silver cutlassfish sashimi, and chewy flounder sashimi. Do you know the best way to eat mackerel sashimi? The tastiest trick is to wrap mackerel sashimi, rice and pepper-onion sauce in seaweed and eat it all together! The savoriness and umami explode in your mouth, and the sashimi is so wonderfully chewy...

It was my first time trying cutlassfish sashimi, and there was no fishy taste at all — just a subtle sweetness with a chewy texture that clings to the palate.

How can every single piece of sashimi be this fresh, sweet and delicious...😭

How were the braised mackerel and the pot rice?
Finally, the main dish — braised mackerel! Tamra Hansang is actually famous for its signature braised cutlassfish, but since I'd already had braised cutlassfish for breakfast that morning, I decided to order braised mackerel this time. And it turned out to be an excellent choice I had zero regrets about!
The braised mackerel arrived bubbling in its rich sauce, and it looked mouthwatering from the first glance. The mackerel flesh was plump, and you could feel the freshness right away. The seasoning in particular was incredible! The spicy-sweet sauce flavor was outstanding.
Even my husband, who's usually sensitive to fishy smells and puts his chopsticks down at the slightest hint of one, ate it up happily, saying there was no fishy taste at all. There were also fluffy potatoes soaked in the sauce mixed in, which made picking through the dish even more fun! It really had the deep flavor you'd expect from a genuine Korean restaurant near Olle Market in Seogwipo.

And the freshly made hot stone pot rice — so fragrant and chewy... With ginkgo nuts and potato mixed in, even the rice alone was sweet and delicious. I poured hot water in and scraped up every last bit of the crispy scorched rice at the bottom!
Is Tamra Hansang worth it? Final verdict
This place lacked nothing — value for money, flavor, and a generous spread all came together. At ₩60,000 for two, the deep, spicy braised dish alone would've been worth it, but getting treated to sweet shrimp, mackerel and cutlassfish sashimi as part of the set made the whole experience feel that much more satisfying. Add in friendly service, a comfortable dining space, and easy parking support, and it made for a genuinely happy meal during my Jeju trip. If you're looking for a Korean restaurant near Olle Market in Seogwipo that delivers perfect value and a truly satisfying spread, definitely give Tamra Hansang a visit.
