Jeju indoor media art with kids, 30-minute no-wait visit: Nohyeong

In short

Nohyeong Supermarket is an indoor media art exhibition hall on Nohyeong-ro in Jeju City. Visiting with the kids on a Sunday at 4pm meant no wait to get in, a tangerine juice chosen with the Nohyeong Dabang drink voucher, and about 30 minutes to walk through the black-and-white rooms and the large media art hall. Nohyeong Supermarket works less as a half-day destination and more as one extra indoor stop in Jeju City on a rainy day or between plans.

We visited Nohyeong Supermarket with the kids around 4pm on a Sunday during our Jeju trip. With just two or three hours left before closing, there were fewer people than I expected, and no wait to get in at all!

If you're looking for an indoor place to go with kids in Jeju City on a rainy or otherwise bad-weather day — something short and satisfying — this might be worth checking out.

Nohyeong Dabang café and gift shop: what can you pick with the drink voucher?

Before heading into the Nohyeong Supermarket exhibit, there's a connected space with Nohyeong Dabang (café) and a gift shop. Since the ticket has a set price that includes a drink and experience voucher, we got the set for the kids and just plain admission for ourselves!

With the drink voucher, you can choose from Americano, strawberry julluck, tangerine juice, sindalju, or blue barley gaeyeok. The kids went straight for the tangerine juice — it felt like the true Jeju option!

Around the café there were Jeju souvenirs and small goods on display, so we could browse while waiting for the drinks. Also felt a bit cheaper than similar shops elsewhere...?

The exhibition starts in black and white

Walking into Nohyeong Supermarket, you first hit a black-and-white space that feels like an old Jeju village market transplanted indoors! With old-fashioned signs everywhere — like the corner store and the tailor shop — it gives adults a retro vibe, while for kids it probably reads as strange and fascinating.

After passing through this barely-lit black-and-white space, you move into a colorful media art area, and the mood shifts completely — it felt almost like an escape room!

Rather than hands-on interactive spots, this section had lots of photo-worthy corners here and there, and the kids had fun with the dark passages, lighting, and mirror-filled rooms too.

The large media art hall was the highlight

The part of Nohyeong Supermarket that stuck with me most was the main media art space, which is theater-sized. Instead of video playing on just one wall, it spreads across the tall walls and wide floor, so once you're actually inside, it feels much more immersive than it looks in photos.

As Jeju's oreum (volcanic cones) and flower fields shift with the seasons and colors across the full wall of video, even the kids sat watching, completely absorbed for a good while.

In the section where the video continues down onto the floor, the kids ran around chasing the screen — it wasn't really an exhibit you quietly observe, but more like an exhibit you step into and move freely around inside a giant video.

How long does a visit to Nohyeong Supermarket take?

The viewing time was roughly 30 minutes. There are also spaces decorated with mirrors and lighting, and one done up in blue light with mirror balls all around — if you linger in front of the videos or take photos carefully, it could take a bit longer!

So it's less a destination for a half-day and more a good indoor spot to slot in mid-itinerary during a Jeju trip, or to visit when it's raining!

What I liked most was that it was a Sunday afternoon, and aside from one group at the very start, we could still look around at our own pace. The main media art hall is big in scale with such vivid colors in the video that the kids found it fascinating and fun!
