If there's one dish you have to eat on a Jeju trip, it's gogi-guksu (pork noodle soup), right?! On this Jeju trip I visited Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch, a pork noodle soup spot near Gwakji Beach and Handam Beach in Aewol that locals apparently love too. It was so good it made a satisfying first breakfast in Jeju! Here's my review.

Where is Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch, and where do you park for free?
Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch sits right in front of the beautiful Handam Beach, so it was really easy to find. Parking worries are always big on a trip, but this place has 3 spots right out front, and using Handam Public Parking Lot (Landy's Donuts lot) or the Handam Trail parking gets you 1 hour free, which made the visit that much more convenient.
What the ocean-view dining room at Handam Guksu looks like
The moment I stepped into Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch, what struck me was that every single seat has an ocean view! Through the window, Jeju's wide-open blue sea filled the whole frame — such a refreshing sight. Even while waiting for the food, that unmistakable Jeju atmosphere was all around.
Naver Reservation, no wait: baby chairs and the self-serve bar
Jeju's Handam Guksu takes Naver Reservation, so we got in with no wait at all. It was morning, but by the time it turned into early lunch, the place filled up fast with a proper local crowd. And with baby chairs on hand and a tidy self-serve bar, I thought it was really the ideal space for families with kids too.
What we ordered: two 10,000-won noodle bowls at Handam Guksu
I heard they hand-make the noodles fresh every morning, so my expectations were high. The moment the table was set, the visuals alone were overwhelming! Looks pretty delicious, right??
Bone-broth pork noodle soup, 10,000 won
It arrives with rich, deep bone broth piled generously with Jeju pork. One sip of the long-simmered broth and I felt full and satisfied already.
Tender boiled pork and chewy noodles go together so well. There's no way this pork noodle soup could taste bad. As an Aewol pork noodle spot, even my kid ate this dish really well!
Mountain-pile bibim noodles, 10,000 won
These bibim noodles come piled sky-high with fresh vegetables, seasoning, and meat! The special spicy-sweet sauce adds real depth of flavor, perfect for perking up your appetite.
There were bites of lean meat throughout, which made it even tastier. Eating pork noodle soup while looking at the ocean view — that's when it really started to feel like Jeju!! I was getting excited for the trip.
Self-serve sides at Handam Guksu: radish pickles and kimchi
Extra sides at Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch come from the self-serve bar. The crunchy radish pickles and kimchi were spot on.
Is dombe suyuk worth adding to the pork noodle soup?
There were also other menu items like handmade black pork tteokgalbi that everyone, young and old, would enjoy. This time I ordered the dombe suyuk (sliced boiled pork on a cutting board)! Even just the sight of it, neatly sliced on the board, looked appetizing. True to Jeju pork, the flavor was savory and clean — really excellent.
The ratio of lean meat to fat was just right, so the more you chewed, the softer and juicier it felt. Since it's served chilled, there's a nice chewiness to it too. It's delicious on its own, tender and soft, or wrapped in noodles, or dipped lightly in the special sauce for even more flavor. It pairs perfectly with the pork noodle soup, so I really recommend ordering it together!!
Is Handam Guksu a good first meal of a Jeju trip?
