Nohyeong-dong dakdoritang after a late arrival in Jeju

I rushed over to Jeju after work! I landed at Jeju Airport at 9 p.m., hungry already, but by the time I picked up the rental car, most restaurants were about to close... I searched like crazy for a Korean restaurant near Jeju Airport. Craving a filling, spicy broth at that late hour, I found Deureomtong Sotttukkeong Dakdoritang (드럼통솥뚜껑닭도리탕), a dakdoritang specialty spot in Nohyeong-dong. Because it stays open late, it was perfect for travelers arriving on late-night flights or for a late dinner with a drink. Time for my honest review of the place that soothed my hunger and made me marvel at the proper pot-lid presentation!

Parking and the late-night exterior

Restaurant parking area information

The restaurant’s dedicated lot fits about four cars, so it is a little tight. It is more convenient to use Wonnohyeong Pureun No. 1 Public Parking Lot, the surrounding side streets, or a nearby public lot. Since I visited after 10 p.m. on a weekday, I was able to park in the dedicated lot. The building sits on a corner, making it easy to spot even from afar, and its large sign makes it easy to find at night too.

The exterior has a retro yet tidy Korean-restaurant feel, creating a cozy, familiar atmosphere that makes it easy to walk in even late at night.

Drum burners and a spacious interior

Once inside, the first thing that catches your eye is the drums. Pot lids are set over retro-style drums to cook the dakdoritang, while regular tables and drum burners are arranged together, making for a spacious, comfortable meal.

The tables are generously spaced too, making this an ideal place to eat at leisure or enjoy a drink with your meal.

Here is the restaurant’s signature drum burner. A powerful gas burner sits inside the colorful drum, so you can keep the pot-lid dakdoritang hot and delicious until the very end 😍

There is also a hygienic, neatly maintained self-service bar. Small plates, utensils, and side dishes are organized tidily, so you can take what you need.

I had arrived in Jeju without even having dinner, so I was starving, but as soon as I sat down, they set out neat basic side dishes. From kimchi and pickled chili peppers to pickled onions and corn salad, it was the perfect spread to get the appetite going.

At last, the generously loaded dakdoritang arrived on a huge pot lid. The sight of big pieces of aged kimchi, fresh mushrooms, and heaps of vegetables made me go, “Wow~~~” without even trying.

When the shallow broth began bubbling away, its spicy aroma was so enticing it almost made me dizzy. I knew I had found a truly good Korean restaurant near Jeju Airport.

One thing that really moved me was the staff service. They personally cut the large head of kimchi into bite-sized pieces, so all I had to do was eat—such a satisfying touch.

After the dakdoritang arrived, a staff member set a timer for exactly 10 minutes before leaving. Those 10 minutes felt sooooo long....

Just as the timer was about to go off, in went a heaping pile of glass noodles!!!

Finally, time to eat!!! There was absolutely no chicken odor, and the seasoning had soaked right through the meat, making it wonderfully tender and delicious. Definitely a great Nohyeong-dong spot 👍👍👍

The cheese rice cakes, plump with seasoning, were a special treat too. Be sure to add them ☝️

Above all, the highlight here was the aged kimchi. I tried it with the glass noodles, and its deep, rich savory flavor was incredible—excellent not only with rice but also as an anju, food to pair with drinks. I could clearly see why this is such a popular Nohyeong-dong restaurant and drinking spot.

Finish with torch-charred cheese fried rice

For the final course, I ordered the cheese fried rice, which is absolutely not to be missed.

Once it was fried up nicely with that pleasantly chewy texture,

they piled on a generous amount of cheese. I was just thinking, “Do I need to wait for the cheese to melt?” when!

They melted the cheese over an open flame with a torch right in front of me, and I was amazed all over again by the golden cheese and smoky aroma! If you come here, you absolutely have to try the cheese fried rice!! Highly recommended!!!

Deureomtong Sotttukkeong Dakdoritang, which I visited to soothe my hunger late on my first night in Jeju, satisfied me in every way: the food, atmosphere, and friendly service. The tender chicken without any off odor, deeply flavorful aged kimchi, and cheese fried rice given a smoky finish with a torch made for a perfect course. Since it stays open late, I can confidently recommend it to anyone arriving in Jeju on a night flight or looking around Nohyeong-dong for a hearty Korean meal and a drink. I am 200% willing to return on my next Jeju trip!
