Pohang mulhoe restaurant with a public lot across the road: Ppwang

It's still hot enough during the day that I went to Pohang and treated myself to mulhoe haha. I've come to Pohang for mulhoe a few times, and every time I eat it I get why Pohang mulhoe is so famous haha. When you're traveling, parking matters a lot, and this place had a lot right in front plus a big public parking lot right across the street, so parking was really easy. Here's my visit.

Where is Ppwang Mulhoe, and what are its parking and hours?

• Parking: lot in front of the restaurant, plus a public parking lot across the street
• Hours: opens 10:30 AM, closes 10 PM (11 PM Fri–Sat only)
• No break time

The exterior and the public lot across the road

Ppwang Mulhoe had parking space right in front of the restaurant too, but I parked at the public lot since I wanted to walk around nearby afterward and go up Spacewalk. The public lot is right across the street too, so it's close haha.

Ppwang Mulhoe doesn't just earn money — it also gives back through sponsorships. I could see traces of well-known celebrities who'd visited too.

Ppwang Mulhoe menu and prices

Ppwang Mulhoe's signature dishes are the Ppwang Mulhoe at ₩25,000, squid mulhoe at ₩20,000, flat flounder mulhoe at ₩20,000, the Ppwang Mulhoe 3-combo at ₩20,000, and hoe-deopbap at ₩19,000.

Besides mulhoe, they also sell squid sashimi, fried squid, squid pajeon, and even a Korean beef bulgogi rice bowl, so there's something for people who can't eat raw fish too.

Seating inside and what the quiet off-peak hour is like

There was a spacious hall with a view of Yeongildae Beach, plus a private room space further inside. Since there's no break time, I visited at an odd hour for a meal, and it was quiet and nice.

What's on the self-bar?

Besides mulhoe, there's a self-bar with fried snacks, tteokbokki, and side dishes, so you can help yourself to as many sides as you want.

What does the signature Ppwang Mulhoe taste like?

This is the signature Ppwang Mulhoe with abalone, sea cucumber, sea squirt, and squid. I'm partial to squid mulhoe, and this one had squid in it too, plus the sea squirt smelled great, and the abalone was sliced thin so it wasn't chewy.

The broth comes separately, so you can pour it in later or from the start.

There's also crisp, mildly sweet pear in it.

When you eat the mulhoe, the sea squirt aroma spreads all through it — the sea squirt was genuinely delicious.

I like squid mulhoe, but usually there isn't much squid in it, so I just end up eating more of the broth in general. But here, having squid actually in it gave a really nice crunchy bite haha.

There's abalone too, and if it's cut a bit thick it can feel tough, but here it was sliced thin, so eating it all together had no chewy interruption — it was delicious.

Pouring in the broth from the start

I wanted mine on the moist side, so I had them pour the broth in from the beginning.

The squid, sea squirt, abalone, sea cucumber, along with the gim (dried seaweed) flakes, pear, and vegetables all had a crunchy bite that came together in harmony — genuinely delicious. The mulhoe sauce wasn't too sharp or spicy, with a savory depth that hit my taste exactly right.

Finishing with somyeon noodles and rice

To finish, there's somyeon, so I added the noodles in and ate them too.

Along with the somyeon, they also give you rice as standard, and eating that on top too really left me stuffed haha.

After eating, doing a loop around Spacewalk park makes for a nice walk, or strolling along Yeongildae Beach is great too haha. Being right in front of the beach makes for a great location, and easy parking was a relief too — when you're out traveling, parking stress is real, so just having convenient parking made a real difference haha.
