Yeosu sashimi takeout on Sinwol-ro with a free black porgy: Uchangho
In short
Uchangho Sashimi Takeout & Direct Sales Market is a sashimi takeout specialist on Sinwol-ro in Yeosu, with no indoor seating — the shop simply slices and packs whatever fish came in that day. Arriving around 7pm, no gizzard shad (jeoneo) had been caught, so the order switched to 1kg of red sea bream at the daily market price of about 30,000–50,000 won, plus a bit of leftover black porgy on the house near closing. Eating the Uchangho takeout sashimi by the sea at sunset explained exactly why Yeosu locals buy their sashimi packed to go.

I went to Uchangho Sashimi Takeout & Direct Sales Market (우창호 회포장&직판장) in Yeosu for sashimi at dinnertime. I visited around 7pm and originally planned to order sea mullet (jeoneo).
No gizzard shad that day, so the order switched to red sea bream
I went planning to eat sea mullet, but they said none had been caught that day, so I switched to red sea bream instead. At a place like Uchangho that slices whatever fish came in that day, it's honestly better not to lock in one fish beforehand — just ask what came in and pick from that. Our plan changed too, but the red sea bream turned out fresh and chewy, so we ate happily. They said the market price changes daily, so it's worth asking about both the fish you want and the price on the day you visit. Since it's sliced fresh from that day's catch, it felt more trustworthy, haha.

Is Uchangho a sit-down sashimi restaurant?
Uchangho isn't a place where you eat sashimi on the spot like a regular restaurant! It's a sashimi takeout specialist with no indoor dining space.
Actually, being a takeout-only place made things simpler. Since Uchangho isn't a sit-down restaurant but a takeout spot, it worked out well for us since we planned to eat elsewhere anyway. You just grab the sashimi and move on — no need to linger, and you can eat wherever you like. We took ours to a nearby beach, and eating right there looking at the sea made the whole Yeosu takeout sashimi thing worth it, haha.

Parking and how to find Uchangho on Sinwol-ro
We drove there, and the parking space nearby was really spacious~~ If you're going for takeout sashimi in Yeosu, you don't need to worry about parking like you would in Seoul or the greater capital area!

We got a bit lost at first, but from the parking lot you can see that building. Instead of going left of the building, head right toward the sea and

the shop sign shows up like this! I did a full loop before finding it... haha.
How much is 1kg of red sea bream at Uchangho?

What we ordered was red sea bream, 1kg. The price was around ₩30,000–50,000, and they told us the market price changes daily. Maybe because it's sliced from that day's catch, but the sashimi was really fresh when we tried it. The texture was chewy and delicious too. The red sea bream itself was fresh enough that we kept reaching for more even without extra side dishes.
When does Uchangho add black porgy on the house?

We only ordered red sea bream, but they threw in a bit of black porgy for free. Curious, I asked, and they said that when closing time gets close and there's leftover sashimi, they sometimes give it away as a bonus. That's a tip worth knowing, haha. Of course, this only happens if there's leftover fish that day, so it's not guaranteed every time. We were glad to get to try both red sea bream and black porgy that day.
Eating the packed sashimi by the sea at sunset

After packing up the sashimi, we took it to a nearby beach to eat! Eating right in front of the sea with the red sunset in view made for a great atmosphere.

The sashimi was already fresh and chewy, but eating it outdoors like this made it feel even more delicious, haha.

If you're doing takeout sashimi in Yeosu, eating it at a nearby beach is a great move! Personally, I thought it was worth picking whatever fish was caught that day instead of insisting on a famous species. Even if the fish we originally wanted wasn't available, as long as another fish is in good condition, it can still be plenty delicious. With red sea bream and black porgy together, finishing up right by the sea, I felt glad we went with takeout sashimi that evening, haha.
