"Wanbeoljip, the Kyungsung University samgyeopsal spot where you never have to worry about smelling like smoke!"

These days there are tons of grill-it-for-you barbecue places, but it's rare to find one that grills the meat completely in the kitchen, haha. Wanbeoljip near Kyungsung University let me eat comfortably without worrying about smoke smell, so I've saved it in my heart as a place to go back to ⭐️

Finding Wanbeoljip and how long the wait is

Wanbeoljip is famous around Kyungsung University as a samgyeopsal spot! I searched before visiting and the reviews were great. People especially recommended it as a date spot for the kitchen-grilling and the pretty interior.

The menu board was right at the entrance so I could check it before heading up 👍 I'm the type who needs to plan ahead to feel comfortable, so I really appreciated this.

If there's a wait, you just write your name on the list. I came after peak time so I got seated right away.
Inside Wanbeoljip: counter seats and baby chairs

I couldn't believe a BBQ restaurant could have such a pretty interior..! The inner tables had bar-style seating too, but it was too crowded for me to get a photo 😭 Couples mostly sat at the inner tables while the outer tables had more male customers, haha.

They also have baby chairs, so I'd recommend Wanbeoljip near Kyungsung University for family gatherings too ✨

+FYI, for dessert they give you free ice cream, and if you're with a kid, they also give free cheese curry rice for the baby!

The owner's mindset gets full marks..𖤐 apparently they give you 20-30g more than what you ordered 🫢
What comes with the 700g medium set for 50,500 won
What I ordered at Wanbeoljip was the medium set (700g), recommended for 3–4 people, ₩50,500. Since it's supposed to be a famous samgyeopsal spot near Kyungsung University, I thought "let's really have a pork belly party today!" and ordered generously 🤤

As a self-proclaimed eating expert, I should've studied how to eat it properly beforehand right? (If only I studied like this in school....smack....🤫) The small plate had separate compartments for sauces which looked clean, and the utensil set felt hygienic too.

The side dishes were served neatly too. I love bracken fern, and there was so much of it..😍 Plus garlic, pickles, radish wraps, onion, and salad!

The meat comes out grilled from the kitchen the moment you order, so before the pork belly arrived, they first put potatoes, mushrooms, rice cake, and green onion on the grill, haha. You just stir them around so they don't burn~
Ta-da ✨ Quite a lot, right? It's the set recommended for 3-4 people but I ordered generously.

The set also came with pork skin, so it was fun to pick and choose what to eat, haha. I ordered the original flavor, but there are also galbi-seasoned, charcoal gochujang, and other options, so you can pick to your taste!

Maybe because it's aged pork belly, the juiciness was amazing. No off smell at all, and the more you chewed, the more the savoriness came through. I put the bracken fern they gave us on top and grilled it up too 😻

Why plain pork belly tastes best with shiitake wasabi
For the original-flavor pork belly I ordered, the best way to eat it is topped with shiitake wasabi ⭐️ I tried pink salt and wasabi too, but the shiitake wasabi combo was the tastiest.
Wrapping it with potato doubles the clean, mild flavor...🩷
There was even a mayonnaise sauce!? I tried dipping the pork skin in the mayonnaise sauce, and it toned down the spiciness of the pork skin nicely, making it a great little specialty snack 👍 +You can order lettuce wraps via the kiosk.

Free lemon sorbet to finish the meal
By this point my stomach felt like it would burst... but I still had to have the dessert ice cream, right?

The refreshingly sweet lemon sorbet cleared my palate perfectly ✌️
The meat was delicious, but the service impressed me so much that I still remembered it after getting home. I recommend Wanbeoljip as a samgyeopsal spot near Kyungsung University! Since the meat is grilled so cleanly, it'd also be great for a first date or a nice dinner out 🫶🏻
