Gwangalli izakaya with tonkotsu ramen and cucumber: Ganppa Beer

In short

Ganppa Beer Gwangalli 2 is a standing izakaya with no chairs on Gwangan-ro 62beon-gil in Gwangalli, Busan. Stopping by for round two after dinner, the writer had Sapporo draft beer, Ganppa's Special Cucumber Addiction, and tonkotsu-style Jeong Ramen, then drew fourth place in the review prize draw and got another draft beer free. Ganppa Beer Gwangalli 2 is a good second-stop bar in Gwangalli for a light drink with the feel of a trip to Japan.

Where is Ganppa Beer Gwangalli 2, and what are the hours?

Ganppa Beer Gwangalli 2 is at 10 Gwangan-ro 62beon-gil, 1st floor, unit 101, Suyeong-gu, Busan, open daily from 18:00 to 02:00 with last order at 01:00. It sits along the walk down from Gwangan Station toward Gwangalli, which made it a solid pick for round two after a night out in the area.

You know those days when round one in Gwangalli left you full and happy, but going straight home feels like a waste? That's when I ended up at this Gwangalli beer bar, Ganppa Beer Gwangalli 2, for a light one. The vibe is a bit different from a typical bar, so it should also suit anyone looking for something different in Gwangalli.

What is it like drinking at a standing bar with no chairs?

The most distinctive thing about Ganppa Beer Gwangalli 2 is that it's a standing bar with no chairs! Before going I thought drinking on your feet would be uncomfortable and tiring, but once I was actually in there drinking, it was better than I expected.

Since I was already full from round one, standing for a light beer instead of sitting down for a long meal actually worked in my favor — my body naturally kept moving and I felt like I was digesting better too.

Inside Ganppa Beer Gwangalli 2: a Japan-trip atmosphere

Instead of a quiet, calm atmosphere, the staff were full of energy and hype, so the whole place felt electric. It genuinely felt like I was on a trip to Japan.

The staff greeted us so brightly and energetically right from the order, it put me in a good mood too! This place feels more suited to friends who want to enjoy the atmosphere itself over a casual drink than to a quiet sit-down conversation bar. It's also a comfortable Gwangalli beer bar for drinking solo.

Menu prices and Sapporo draft beer at Ganppa Beer Gwangalli 2

Probably because a lot of customers come here for round two, the menu leans toward light bites to pair with beer rather than heavy dishes meant to fill you up. Prices are kind, too — nothing on the menu is over ₩10,000.

A glass of Sapporo draft beer

The cold Sapporo draft I had was clean and refreshing. Especially after round one, already full and on a hot day, that first cool sip of beer just made everything settle. The Sapporo draft went down smoothly and was really good for a light drink.

Ganppa Beer is a shop collaborating with Sapporo. It's a great spot to focus on draft beer, so if you're a beer lover looking for a Gwangalli beer bar, you should definitely check it out.

There was a review event prize draw, and we landed the 4th prize and got an extra draft beer!! Big win, haha.

Ganppa's Special Cucumber Addiction topped with bonito flakes

Ganppa's Special Cucumber Addiction: does it go with beer?

For a side dish, we ordered Ganppa's Special Cucumber Addiction. It's a cucumber salad with crunchy cucumbers, a tsuyu-based sauce, and a generous topping of bonito flakes.

The cucumber itself is cool and crisp, and with the savory, salty tsuyu sauce plus the aroma of the bonito flakes, it paired with beer better than I expected. The bonito flakes soak up the sauce and get a slightly chewy texture, which turned out to be a stroke of genius.

On days when heavy fried food or meat side dishes feel like too much, ordering something light like this alongside a draft beer works great. It's especially perfect when you're already full from round one. The price is easy on the wallet too, so if you're stopping by for round two, it seems like a good idea to order a little of several things.

A bowl of pork bone-style Jeong Ramen

Tonkotsu-style Jeong Ramen as a soupy beer snack

I wanted something with broth, so I also ordered the hot Jeong Ramen. It's a pork bone (tonkotsu)-style ramen, so it had that rich, savory, heavy flavor of a deep pork bone broth.

After drinking nothing but draft beer for a while, a warm spoonful of broth was such a welcome break. It was filling and the broth was nicely salty and delicious. If you like that rich tonkotsu-style broth flavor, it pairs well with draft beer too :)

If you want to try something different from the usual bars in Gwangalli, I think it's worth enjoying a Sapporo draft at Ganppa Beer Gwangalli 2 for that Japan-trip kind of feeling 🍺 If you're looking for a Gwangalli beer bar, especially if you love a cold beer, this is a solid round-two recommendation in Gwangalli!!
