Korean BBQ with a big kids' room in Daejeon: Hanmaeum Jeongyuk Sikdang

I went to Hanmaeum Jeongyuk Sikdang Mokwon Branch, famous in Daejeon as a restaurant with a play room! We visit 2–3 times a month with our 4- and 9-year-olds, and my husband and I love it too — a real, true regular spot! It's such a great meat restaurant near Mokwon University to visit with kids, and lately it's gotten so popular that you'll wait if you don't book ahead on weekends, haha!

The owners are genuinely so kind and adore the kids — my husband and I have said before, "I really hope this place does well!" So seeing it doing well now makes us happy, that's how much we love it. That's why I want to leave an extra honest review, hahaha.

There aren't many BBQ restaurants with play rooms in Daejeon's Yuseong area, but Hanmaeum Jeongyuk Sikdang Doan Branch is easy to find, right on the main road at Mokwon University intersection! The building has an underground parking lot too, so parking is easy :)

Inside Hanmaeum Jeongyuk Sikdang Doan Branch: tables and private rooms

Among Mokwon University meat restaurants, this one has a spacious dining hall and generous tables. Round tables sit in front of the play room, square tables in the middle, plus individual tables and even a private room! It's a popular spot for group gatherings too.

We've come here for family gatherings and staff dinners in Daejeon several times, and having a room really is convenient :) Last time we came with our older child's friend's family, two families together — the kids had a blast in the play room after eating, and the parents could eat in peace, so everyone was really satisfied! There's CCTV of the play room in the dining hall, so parents can check on the kids anytime while eating — such a great feature!

What's inside the large kids' room?

This big kids' room is one reason our kids shout "Meat!! Let's go to Hanmaeum!!" when we're picking where to eat, haha! When you're deciding where to go with kids in Daejeon, having a play room is such a plus, right? There's a trampoline, a slide, and plenty of space for kids to have fun, haha.

On one side of the play room there's a claw machine and an arcade game that the kids love! A lot of restaurant play rooms are pretty dirty, but this one is kept really clean, so I'm satisfied every time we come :)

Hanmaeum Jeongyuk Sikdang menu and self-service bar

We booked for 6pm on a weekday! Since we had the kids with us, I asked for a table close to the play room, and they seated us right in front of it, haha. Even on a weekday evening, there was a steady stream of people — work dinner groups, couples, families with kids.

The self-service bar has ham, potatoes, vegetables, side dishes, bowls, and even kids' forks and spoons :) If something's missing, just ask the staff and they'll bring it!

What comes in the whole pig 1kg set, plus grilled pork skin

My husband, our 4-year-old, our 9-year-old, and I all eat well, haha. Usually we order the half pig set plus 2–3 servings of grilled pork skin, but since we eat the pork skin every time we come, my husband said he wanted to eat more meat this time, so we ordered the whole pig 1kg set. But seriously, the pork skin here is so good, you have to try it... highly recommend the pork skin..! Really!! ✨👍🏻

The whole pig 1kg set comes with a generous, well-rounded lineup: pork belly, five-layer pork belly, pork neck, pork jowl, and pork shoulder blade. Doesn't the color of the meat alone look so fresh, haha? The meat quality really is good, so every time we grill it we enjoy it a lot.

Side dishes and unlimited-refill doenjang jjigae

At this Doan-dong meat restaurant, the basic side dishes are so varied and plentiful that they fill up the table... pickles, salad, various kimchi, and green onion salad — all pair really well with the meat!

The green onion salad has something like chewy noodles mixed in, and I find that really tasty ◡̈

And the doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) comes out from the start, and since it's unlimited refills, they'll top it up whenever you ask.

How does the aged pork taste?

This popular Daejeon BBQ restaurant uses aged meat, so it's never dry — it's incredibly tender! The juiciness and flavor are amazing... grilled up, it's crispy outside and tender inside... ✨

Wrapping the meat in perilla leaves with pickled peppers, green onion salad, garlic, and sliced radish is honestly the best,,!

And eating the meat together with rice and this doenjang jjigae is so good... the longer it simmers, the tastier it gets, hahaha.

When we think there's a little meat left over, we toss it into the doenjang jjigae — it gets twice as tasty, haha. My husband even asks for Hanmaeum's doenjang jjigae at home... but I just can't replicate it, that stew...👍🏻

And this is something my husband and I personally really love... you can't have meat without a drink, right?😝 At this Mokwon-area meat restaurant, the beer comes out practically slushy with ice, hahahaha. It's so refreshingly cold and delicious...
