I live in Tanbang-dong, so I go to neighborhood cafés pretty often, and one place I've visited a few times is Reelbakers! Every time I pass by it's always packed, so it's clearly one of the more popular cafés in the area. The bread and coffee are both great, and since I'd been there a few times already, I figured it was time to give it a proper write-up haha.

Where is Reelbakers, and what are its hours?

Reelbakers is on the first floor of 76 Munjeong-ro, Seo-gu, Daejeon, open every day from 08:00 to 22:00 with last order at 21:30. It offers group seating, takeout, Wi-Fi, and separate men's and women's restrooms.

Reelbakers says it's built on experience from Australia, kneading and baking bread fresh every morning with a same-day-baked, same-day-sold policy. Their pastries use dough cold-fermented for over 12 hours along with Lescure butter — good to know if you're a bread lover!

Where to park at Reelbakers in Tanbang-dong

Parking information for Reelbakers
  • There's paid public parking about a 1–2 minute walk away around Munjeong-ro 2beon-gil.
  • The building also has a private mechanical parking lot with 2 free hours — after parking, ask the front counter for a parking stamp (mechanical parking hours are 8am–5pm on weekdays, not available weekends or holidays).
  • The terrace-side street allows parking on weekdays from 11:30am–2pm and after 6pm. On weekends and holidays there's no enforcement, so parking is fine anytime.

The mint counter and window seats for solo visits

Walking in, the first thing you see is the counter decorated with mint-colored tiles. The whole space has a vintage-meets-hip feel, with plants and posters scattered around that give Reelbakers its own distinct atmosphere.

There are seats by the window that are great for sitting alone, and further inside there are tables that work well for 2–4 people. Every time I've visited it's been fairly busy, but never in a loud or chaotic way, which I appreciate. It's a nice spot to grab a coffee solo, chat with a friend, or even go on a date — that's part of why it's one of my go-to cafés in Tanbang-dong haha.

They were also running an event where you could enter a draw by writing a Naver receipt review! If you visit, it might be worth trying haha.

Croissants, pastries and salt bread on the Reelbakers shelves

Reelbakers is really about the wide range of baked goods and desserts! If you're looking for a bakery in Tanbang-dong, Daejeon, the sheer variety of bread here should win you over haha.

From croissants to pastries to salt bread, all kinds were on display, and even while I was there people kept picking out bread. The pastries in particular had beautiful, well-defined layers, so if you're after croissants or salt bread in Tanbang-dong, Daejeon, this place is worth checking out.

How the peach warreo wakppu and egg tart tasted

Iced Americano with peach warreo wakppu and egg tart

What I ordered that day was iced Americano, peach warreo wakppu, and an egg tart!

Cross-section of the peach warreo wakppu

I'd given the peach warreo wakppu (a cream-topped pastry) as a gift to a friend before who said it was delicious, so I was curious to try it myself! It has a generous layer of wakppu cream on top, and cutting it open revealed peach jam and actual peach inside. Eating the cream and peach together was sweet and refreshing, and it paired perfectly with the iced Americano haha. I'd had the egg tart before and liked it, so I picked it again too 👍

Why I went back to Reelbakers for takeout the next day

Bread and coffee picked up the next day from Reelbakers

I kept thinking about the bread and coffee from the day before, so I went back the next day to pick up more bread and coffee lol. Reelbakers' Americano is ₩3,000 for takeout, which makes it a solid option if you live or work nearby.

I'd always thought the bread here was good from past visits, but this time I was satisfied enough to go back again the very next day. If you're looking for a bakery café in Tanbang-dong, Daejeon with a huge bread selection and good coffee too, give Reelbakers a try :)
