Jeonpo café street window seats and chestnut cream pie in Busan: Hippy

Today I'm posting about a visit to Hippy, a Jeonpo dessert café located in one of Busan's hottest spots — the Jeonpo Café Street!

On days like these when the weather's great for walking, it's so nice to stroll the streets of Jeonpo-dong, stop by good restaurants and cafés, and browse the little prop shops you see along the way.

The weather was nice again today so I went out for a walk in Jeonpo-dong and finally visited Hippy, famous as a Jeonpo-dong café with real character. The exotic space and all the pretty desserts made me glad I stopped by. The distinctive, moody atmosphere of Jeonpo-dong cafés is great on its own, but Hippy also has a signature dessert you can only get here, so save this one for when you're looking for a Jeonpo-dong dessert café. I really recommend Hippy, a café on Jeonpo Café Street in Busan!

I was looking for a café near Jeonpo Station and ended up at Hippy! I already knew it by reputation as a dessert spot, so the name sounded familiar.

I'd wanted to try Hippy's desserts for a while, and since I was in Jeonpo-dong anyway, I finally stopped in. The atmosphere was striking from the entrance — the exterior, which looks like a little cabin, fit perfectly with that distinctive Jeonpo-dong mood.

Inside Hippy: private 4-person space and terrace seating

Inside, Hippy is decorated mostly in wood tones, giving it a cozy, warm feel. Just like the eye-catching exterior, the interior has plenty of character too..

Tucked into an alley in Jeonpo-dong, it has a calmer, more relaxed vibe than the busy Seomyeon area — a space that feels comfortable enough to linger in for a long time. It's a great spot for chatting with a friend, or a cozy date-worthy café in Jeonpo-dong.

The usable café space turned out to be bigger than expected, so it was fun to wander and explore. Beyond the main space, there's a door leading to another cozy little room — usable by just one group at a time. Whoever gets there first, gets it 😝

If you want to use this cozy room, I'd recommend arriving a bit early to claim it. It's a big table for four, perfect for spending time with a group haha. It felt like the best spot if you want to hang out without worrying about anyone else around.

And with the weather turning cooler these days, you can't skip the outdoor terrace! There are terrace seats outside too, so on a nice day you could sit outside and enjoy your coffee and dessert in great atmosphere.

Since it's a Jeonpo-dong café I expected it to be pretty, but each connected space had its own distinct mood and charm, which made exploring it fun.

I settled into a corner of Hippy's main space, at a window seat that catches great light — this place is a real find for natural light ✨ It was the first spot that caught my eye today, with soft, bright sunshine filtering in.

With my seat secured haha, it was time to go order some delicious dessert and coffee! Even before I ordered coffee, my eyes were drawn straight to the dessert showcase 😍

The owner's pick: Mont Blanc bonuibam chestnut cream pie

Hippy's showcase had all kinds of colorful cream pies lined up, every single one looking delicious, so it was hard to decide which kind to pick.

On the owner's recommendation, I picked the Mont Blanc bonuibam (candied chestnut) cream pie 🌰 When autumn comes around I often go looking for bonuibam desserts myself, and it turned out the owner suggested the same thing, saying it fits the season perfectly — so I went straight for the Mont Blanc chestnut pie.

Seeing it in person, it looked even more delicious and carefully made than in photos — a genuinely high-quality pie that got me even more excited.

It was such a pretty dessert I almost hated to cut into it, but taste matters too when it comes to dessert, so after taking a photo I carefully cut it into bite-sized pieces and tasted it 🤭

I took a sip of the coffee I'd ordered first, then a bite of the sweet pie, and from the very first bite a sweet flavor spread through my mouth that instantly put me in a good mood.

On top of a crisp, well-baked pie crust sat a generous layer of nutty, sweet chestnut cream, and with the sweet candied chestnut added on top, it felt like a properly made chestnut dessert, full of that distinct chestnut flavor.

Personally, this was one of the best pies I've had recently, so much so that I'd give it a perfect score on both taste and craftsmanship. It wasn't a dessert that just focused on looking pretty — the level of detail in drawing out the actual flavor of the ingredients felt genuinely skilled.

Rather than using the candied chestnut just as decoration, they really brought out its distinct flavor, so each cream pie seems to have its own clear personality.

The candied chestnut had a moister, chewier bite than regular chestnut, which I found appealing, and the nutty chestnut combined with a deep sweetness like jocheong (grain syrup) meant the sweetness lingered subtly the more you chewed. It didn't feel like a menu item made just to pad out the dessert lineup — you could feel the care and effort put into capturing what makes each ingredient special.

How is the coffee at Hippy? An americano worth taking away

Turns out Hippy isn't just about the desserts — it's also a café that does coffee really well. The americano had a heavy body along with a gentle acidity, giving it a flavor that was both nutty and clean.

It paired well with the sweet cream pie, of course, but it also seemed like coffee that would be delicious enough on its own. Later, on the way home, I ended up buying another cup to take out — and thinking back on it again, the balance of acidity and nuttiness really was excellent.

Good coffee, good dessert, and a great atmosphere on top of it all . . . 🥺

For anyone looking for a café, this is a completely satisfying spot on Jeonpo Café Street — and with the weather this good for going out, it feels like an especially good time to visit this moody Jeonpo café. Sitting in a pretty, atmospheric café with a cup of coffee and a sweet dessert is honestly healing enough on its own.

There are so many pretty cafés in Jeonpo-dong, but what really makes Hippy worth visiting is its signature handmade cream pie — something you won't find just anywhere, and can only get here.

Hippy's desserts were reportedly selected as one of 2025's promising unique desserts in Busan, and after trying the cream pie here, I could see exactly why 👍🏻

Next time I'd like to try a different flavor of cream pie, but especially now that autumn's just started, the Mont Blanc chestnut cream pie I had today is definitely the one I'd recommend.
