Jeonpo-dong café with Basque cheesecake and lychee ade: Ibaba Coffee

My friend and I stuck together the whole day off, and we ended up going really deep with each other, letting go of feelings we'd been sitting on for a while. It felt so relieving. We even cried together while talking, haha o(TヘTo). It hit me all over again how grateful I am to have someone who cries with me and feels what I feel.

After rolling around at home, the weather turned out so good that we said, can we really not go out today, staying in would basically be a crime — so we headed to a café in the daytime for once.

Ibaba Coffee: location, parking and opening hours

Ibaba Coffee is located in Jeonpo-dong near Gyeongnam High School of Technology. There's no parking, so use a nearby lot, haha. Hours are Tuesday to Sunday, 11:00 to 20:00, last order at 19:40, closed every Monday.

What does the name Ibaba Coffee mean?

Ibaba! Coffee — what could that possibly mean? I wondered if it was dialect for "look here!", or maybe the owner's nickname, or maybe even a pet's name, hahaha. I'll hide the answer somewhere in this post, ha~

Outdoor tables and window seats at Ibaba Coffee

Ibaba Coffee also has outdoor tables. Now that it's gotten a bit cooler, having dessert and coffee outside is honestly... you'd want for nothing else. Peak relaxation.

But our seat was here, haha — a perfect spot for staring out the window and zoning out.

Inside, Ibaba Coffee looked exactly as clean as it appears — black, gray, white tones. A very modern-feeling café.

The big table in the center of the café added to the vibe too — total Instagram material, right? It's spacious enough that I thought it'd be great for laptop work, and sure enough another customer soon showed up and started working on their laptop there, haha. Getting work done and soaking up the aesthetic at the same time, haha.

Ibaba Coffee menu: Ibaba latte and nunettine are the signatures

The Ibaba latte is the signature menu item!! They use fresh 1A-grade Maeil milk for a better-tasting latte~ As a certified milk fanatic, I have to admit it's bound to taste good.

There were several desserts too, and as pictured on the poster, nunettine (a layered pastry dessert) was the signature. I visited early in the morning so mine was still baking!!! I'll try it fresh next time!! Nunettine seems like the kind of dessert that goes well with any drink.

The iced americano, and the story behind "Ibaba"

Even the cup says Ibaba~~~ I don't know much about coffee flavors, but the beans weren't bitter at all, and had a nicely nutty taste, haha.

So what does Ibaba mean?

It started as a name meaning "look at this, look here!" — the phrase people naturally say when they've found something good.

That's what it said on Naver!! So "look here!" was right, hahaha. Mystery solved~ haha

Basque cheesecake with lychee grapefruit ade

The Basque cheesecake had a smoky exterior and a rich, moist cheese filling — pure moistness itself. It wasn't too sweet and went really well with the iced americano.

The grapefruit lychee ade had a nice bitterness from the grapefruit and refreshing sweetness from the lychee. I stirred it well before drinking, and this too paired really well with the Basque cheesecake!!!

Café talk over dessert: the pressure to get married

While popping sweets into our mouths, we chatted, and lately I've noticed some kind of pressure building up around marriage, whether I realize it or not. Marriage used to be something I was eager and curious about, but that faded away gradually starting around the middle of last year.

I figured the desire would naturally come back later, but as I get older and meet adults, everyone started throwing in a comment about marriage. At first I didn't care much, but lately it's started bothering me, like it's homework I need to hurry up and finish ಥ_ಥ — but honestly, this is the person I'll spend my whole life with, so I'm going to do it on my own timeline.
