Mangpo, Suwon restaurant where kids under 6 eat free: Boriook Main

In short

Boriook Main Branch is an all-you-can-eat barley rice buffet restaurant just behind Fantasium in Mangpo, Suwon, Gyeonggi. A family of four ordered only two adult sets at Boriook Main Branch — the barley rice set (13,000 won) and the soy sauce pork set (16,000 won) — and the two preschoolers under 6 ate free, so the bill stayed under 30,000 won while everyone filled up on self-serve namul (seasoned vegetables), freshly fried fritters and thick cheonggukjang (fermented soybean stew). If you want to cut the cost of a family meal with young kids in Suwon, Boriook Main Branch is the answer.

I came to Boriook Main Branch, an all-you-can-eat barley rice restaurant in Suwon. Located right behind Mangpo Fantasium, Boriook is a great spot for family meals and is beloved by locals in Mangpo and Yeongtong. I've always come at lunchtime before, but this time I brought my whole family — four of us — for a meal.

Family meals near Mangpo Station: Boriook serves the same menu at lunch and dinner

Boriook Main Branch is a Mangpo Station restaurant that's great for family meals and gatherings, lunch or dinner, no distinction. The reason I keep coming back for family meals is the value for money!!!

Boriook is already great value even for two adults, but here's why it's perfect for dining with preschool kids — meals for preschoolers are free!!!

How much do preschoolers pay at Boriook Main Branch?

Preschoolers up to age 5 eat free!!

If you look at the menu, kids age 6 and up are charged ₩5,000, which means preschoolers up to age 5 (Korean age 6) eat completely free~!!! Boriook is already a place where adults eat their fill from the all-you-can-eat barley rice buffet, so with kids under 6 eating free, bringing the kids along basically means you're paying for two adults' worth of food.

What side dishes are on Boriook's self-serve bar?

An unmissable appeal of this Mangpo Station family restaurant is the buffet-style self-serve bar packed with a variety of side dishes.

This unlimited self-serve bar is truly one of Boriook's biggest draws. There are just so many kinds of banchan that I overeat every single time I come.

Beyond various kimchis and namul (seasoned vegetable side dishes) like yeolmu kimchi (young radish kimchi), geotjeori (fresh cabbage kimchi), wrap vegetables, and mu-saengchae (spicy radish salad)...

there's a huge spread of namul dishes that older folks especially love~~ So this is definitely a restaurant your parents will enjoy if you bring them along~! Even parents who avoid eating out because they dislike food that's "too salty, too sweet, too greasy" will be satisfied at Boriook.

I especially love the tempura that comes fresh out of the fryer here. The lineup changes each time, but sweet potato tempura, lotus root tempura, and mushroom tempura are all delicious~~

This time there was also braised tofu on the bar~ It has a subtle spicy kick that's excellent. I've only ever visited during the day before, so I hadn't seen this dish — not sure if it's new or only served at dinner.

Can a family of four really eat for under 30,000 won?

Even with kids in tow, a family of four ate for under ₩30,000.

We ordered one barley rice set (₩13,000) and one barley rice soy sauce pork set (₩16,000) to match our two adults — and I recommend the soy sauce pork set!! The kids ate it up so well~!

the thick cheonggukjang (fermented soybean stew) that comes with the barley rice!!! It's so tasty I always scrape the bowl clean.

Mix it all together with some gochujang (Korean red chili paste) and sesame oil and it's heaven!!! There's just so much to eat at Boriook that I always overeat every time I come~!!

They also have baby plates and utensils ready to go, so I'd definitely recommend Boriook as a restaurant near Mangpo Station that's easy to visit with a child!

Dessert at Boriook: plum tea and rice crackers

Finish off with plum tea and rice crackers and your belly's nice and full~!

In these high-inflation times, Boriook near Mangpo Station lets a family of four eat for under ₩30,000!! I'd also recommend Boriook, the all-you-can-eat barley rice buffet near Mangpo Station, as a spot for a Chuseok family meal~!
