In short
Hongkyojip Jamsil is a charcoal-grill Korean BBQ restaurant tucked inside the Bangi-dong food alley near Jamsil Station in Songpa, Seoul, where staff grill the meat tableside from start to finish. On a Thursday 8:30 pm reservation, Hongkyojip Jamsil served two servings of premium thin-cut pork neck, one serving of premium five-layer pork belly and doenjang sul-bap (soybean paste rice), and the chewy kkodeulsal (cartilage-edge meat) on the pork neck dipped in the sweet-spicy yukjang sauce was the standout. With the staff doing all the grilling, Hongkyojip Jamsil works just as well for friends as for work dinners or a date.

My friend and I planned dinner in Bangi-dong, and I was craving meat after a while, so we went to Hongkyojip Jamsil in the Jamsil food alley. We ordered thick premium thin-cut pork neck and pork belly, and the staff grilled everything for us from start to finish — way more comfortable than I expected!
Where is Hongkyojip Jamsil, and do you need a reservation?
Hongkyojip Jamsil is a Korean BBQ spot near Jamsil Station, tucked inside the Bangi-dong food alley. It's open daily 11:30–00:30, has no parking, but welcomes both groups and pets.

The exterior has a bit more atmosphere than your typical BBQ joint, so it caught my eye even just walking by. We booked ahead for Thursday 8:30pm. There's a CatchTable kiosk at the entrance showing the reservation status, and there were quite a few bookings even when we visited. If you're planning an evening visit, I'd recommend reserving in advance!

Is the dining room big enough for a work dinner?
The inside of Hongkyojip Jamsil was bigger than I expected. The tables have plenty of space between them, making it good for friends but also fine for larger group gatherings or work dinners.

Each table has a chimney-like structure around the grill, which isn't something you usually see at BBQ places — it matched the interior nicely and was kind of pretty, haha 😊
The meat is grilled over charcoal. Once the staff loaded the charcoal and set the grill on top, we were officially ready to eat! With this kind of vibe, it seemed perfect both as a Jamsil work dinner spot and a date course.

Hongkyojip Jamsil menu and what two people ordered
The menu ranges from single cuts like pork belly, five-layer belly, pork neck, and pork jowl, to set menus where you can try several cuts together. There were also lots of good side dishes to pair with, like crab doenjang stew, beef brisket doenjang sul-bap, naengmyeon (cold noodles), and steamed egg.
Here's what we ordered:
- Premium thin-cut pork neck (2 servings)
- Premium five-layer pork belly (1 serving)
- Doenjang sul-bap
- 1 bowl of rice

The premium thin-cut pork neck comes so thick that you can't order just 1 serving on its own — 2 servings is the minimum.

They're also running a Naver receipt review event, where you get to pick one of: peach tree highball, apple tree highball, or steamed egg. We went with the cheddar cheese steamed egg, haha.
How the charcoal-grilled pork tasted

🥩 Premium thin-cut pork neck — kkodeulsal is the highlight
They put the premium thin-cut pork neck on first, and seeing it up close, it was genuinely thick! At Hongkyojip, the staff grill the meat for you, cutting the thick pork neck into bite-sized pieces and timing it so you eat it exactly when it's perfectly cooked — we just had to sit back and eat, haha.
Even at that thickness, the pork neck wasn't dry at all — soft, but still had a good chew to it. What I loved most was the kkodeulsal (the chewy cartilage-edge bit) attached to the pork neck! I thought it might be fat at first, but it had this satisfying chewy texture that gave it a totally different charm from the rest of the pork neck 😋

🥩 Premium five-layer pork belly
The premium five-layer pork belly had a great savory flavor, and the skin part had a nice chew — this is exactly the taste you want from pork belly, haha. The mushrooms and eggplant served alongside were also grilled perfectly by the staff, and eating one bite of those between bites of meat turned out to be a nice little treat too.

🍶 Pork with the sweet-spicy yukjang sauce
Yukjang is apparently a sauce made with gochujang and fruit, and it was sweet with a bit of spice — it went surprisingly well with the meat. I usually reach for salt or ssamjang, but that day I kept going back to the yukjang. Wrapping the meat and wasabi in myeong-i namul (wild leaf greens) was also a delicious combo! 👍

Final verdict: enough food for two at Hongkyojip Jamsil
From the premium thin-cut pork neck to the pork belly to the crab doenjang stew, we walked out really full, just the two of us, haha.
