The Bangi-dong food alley is famous for having a ton of great restaurants packed in — honestly, if you search for Jamsil restaurants, this neighborhood tends to come up too, since so many well-known spots in the Jamsil area are clustered right here. Out of all of them, we ended up visiting Hongkyojip.

Is Hongkyojip Jamsil good for a group dinner?
We booked a reservation ahead of time just in case, and it turned out to be a great call — the place was packed even on a weekday! A group of coworkers happened to be having their office dinner there, and with the spacious seating and staff grilling the meat for you, I could totally see why this place gets recommended as a Jamsil dinner spot. Watching several tables of groups enjoying their meal, I understood exactly why everyone puts this place on their list.

Once we sat down, the basic side dishes were set out — bracken fern, myeong-i namul (wild garlic leaves), salad, pickled onions, aged kimchi, and wasabi! It was exactly the lineup I usually love most at a Korean BBQ place. I'm a total Korean-food person, so side dishes really matter to me 😉

I was already in a great mood before the meal even started because of that. These little details are probably exactly why this place is known as a Jamsil Station restaurant.

How was the thick-cut pork neck?
When picking a Jamsil samgyeopsal (pork belly) spot, I think the quality of the meat itself matters most. We ordered two servings of pork neck, and I was surprised at how thick the cuts were as soon as they arrived.
Staff here grill the meat for you, so we didn't have to touch a thing — super convenient. They recommended dipping one piece in salt first, and when I tried it that way, the juiciness and savory flavor were really outstanding.
With this level of quality, I could confidently recommend it to anyone looking for a Jamsil samgyeopsal spot. Not just the thickness, but the clean texture with no gamey smell — genuinely the best Jamsil samgyeopsal I've had 😁

They told us their meat sauce isn't fish-sauce based but made in-house with a gochujang (red chili paste) base blended with fruit! Maybe that's why it gave the meat such a rich, savory flavor — a totally different charm from the usual fish sauce version.

Adding the whole green onion galmaegisal
What felt like this place's signature dish among all the Jamsil Station restaurants was this — we finished the pork neck so fast that we regretfully ordered the green onion galmaegisal (skirt steak) on top. It was a visual I hadn't seen anywhere else, so it was fun and surprising.

Just seeing the galmaegisal placed between whole stalks of green onion was visually fun on its own. The flavor was great too — the aroma of the green onion paired beautifully with the skirt steak, and the juices burst out with every bite. If you're looking for a different kind of meat dish, I'd recommend the green onion galmaegisal first.

Final verdict on Hongkyojip Jamsil
Overall, Hongkyojip nailed three things: thick pork neck, the distinctive green onion galmaegisal, and a basic side dish spread that clearly had care put into it. The attentive service, from grilling to table setup, made the whole meal comfortable.

Even just one thick piece of pork neck was enough to convince me this belongs near the top of any Jamsil samgyeopsal list. It also works well for smaller get-togethers with friends, so it's versatile enough to recommend as a Jamsil dinner spot for all kinds of occasions. The generous group seating and the fact that staff grill the meat for you, letting you focus purely on conversation, were both big advantages.
For anyone looking for a Jamsil Station restaurant, weighing options for a Jamsil Station BBQ place, or needing a Jamsil samgyeopsal spot for a group gathering, I can confidently recommend this place to all of them. If you're figuring out where to hold your next team dinner, I highly recommend Hongkyojip!
