Daegu restaurant with Catch Table booking for a birthday: Geumdeungeo

In short

Geumdeungeo Deulanguil Main Branch is a wood-fired mackerel hansik restaurant on Deulan-ro in Suseong-gu, Daegu. For a mother's birthday, the writer ordered the nuruk-salt aged wood-fired mackerel set and added fire-grilled spicy pork stir-fry for 9,000 won, then used the room-style seating, the self-serve banchan bar and the dessert corner with gangjeong and apricot tea. Check the Catch Table reservation and the parking tower location in advance and Geumdeungeo works well for a family gathering.

On days that matter a bit more than usual — a parent's birthday, a family gathering — you start paying attention to more than just the food, right? Atmosphere and service too. This time we went to Geumdeungeo Deulanguil branch for my mother's birthday. From the private room to the wood-fired mackerel cooked right after ordering to the thoughtful side dishes, everything was satisfying, so I wanted to introduce this Deulanguil restaurant to anyone looking for a good spot around there.

Where is the Geumdeungeo Deulanguil parking tower, and how do you book?

Geumdeungeo Deulanguil has its parking tower entrance facing the main road, so if it's your first visit, check the location ahead of time so you don't miss it. We turned into the alley behind it, which turned out to be the exit — we ended up walking in circles for nothing haha🥹

Table use is capped at 1 hour 30 minutes, and the ground floor has parking for about 10 cars — if it's full, you can use the parking tower.

This Deulanguil restaurant gets a wait during meal times, so if you have an important occasion like we did, I'd recommend booking ahead through Catch Table⭐️ It was also convenient that you could register for the waitlist on-site with a tablet.

Room-style seating at Geumdeungeo: private enough for parents

Geumdeungeo, a Deulanguil restaurant that won the Consumer Preferred Brand Award, also scored well at the Korea Foodservice Management Awards, so this restaurant near Suseong Lake had me even more curious.

Looking around inside, the wood tones and soft lighting came together for a calm, upscale feel overall. Besides the regular 2- and 4-person tables, there are also room-style seats where you can eat independently — great for business dinners, group gatherings, and anniversaries. High chairs are available too, so families with kids can dine here as well👶🏻

Table set for a family gathering

Above all, the staff were attentive from seating to explaining the menu to checking in during the meal, which made me glad I chose this place for my mother's birthday dinner. She loved it so much she actually came back later with her friends for another gathering!

It's formal enough without being overwhelming, so I'd also recommend it for a Korean set meal near Suseong Lake with the parents' generation🐟

Wood-fired mackerel grilled only after you order

We ordered the nuruk-salt aged wood-fired mackerel set together with the fire-grilled spicy pork stir-fry.

💡 Ordering tip — the spicy pork stir-fry is ₩20,000 per person on its own, but adding just ₩9,000 to the set lets you try it too, so this combo is what I'd recommend most!

Grilled mackerel fresh from the wood-fired oven, cooked after ordering

Instead of pre-grilling the mackerel, this place cooks it in the wood-fired oven only after you order, so the outside was golden and crispy while the inside stayed moist.

Grilled mackerel placed on the tabletop induction burner

It's also placed on a tabletop induction burner, so even if you take your time chatting through the meal, it stays warm right to the last bite👍🏻

Mackerel flesh served with a side of nuruk salt

With a light dab of the nuruk salt that came with it, the clean, savory flavor of the fish really came through. Honestly, the mackerel alone would be enough to recommend this as a go-to Deulanguil restaurant.

Fire-grilled spicy pork stir-fry: is the 9,000 won add-on worth it?

The spicy pork we added was even better than expected👍🏻 The sweet-and-spicy sauce carried a deep char from the direct-fire grilling — the kind of flavor that has you reaching for rice after one bite!

The chewy pork and onions worked so well together it was truly rice-thief material. The mackerel is clean and light, the pork is spicy and bold — a great contrast, so if you're dining with a group, I'd recommend ordering both.

Self-serve banchan bar and the gangjeong and apricot tea dessert corner

Full spread of set-meal side dishes including japchae and salad

The set comes with a full spread of side dishes — japchae (glass noodle stir-fry), salad, gim (seasoned seaweed), kimchi, and more — and you could taste the care put into each one. Rather than being aggressively salty, they were balanced to go well with the main dish, which should suit anyone who loves the generous style of a Suseong Lake Korean set meal.

Self-serve banchan bar at Geumdeungeo Deulanguil

One nice detail at Geumdeungeo Deulanguil is the self-serve banchan bar — no need to hunt down extra dishes! When the banchan served with your order runs low, you just bring your own bowl over and refill it. Good to know before your first visit.

We especially loved the doraji (bellflower root) and yeongeun (lotus root) muchim (seasoned side dishes), so we kept going back for refills!

Tongs, scissors, and aprons set out at the self-serve bar

Tongs, scissors, forks, aprons — plenty of tools were also laid out at the self-serve bar.

Before you head out, make sure to stop by the self-serve bar one more time. There's a whole lineup of desserts — gangjeong (Korean rice puff snack), iced cups, apricot tea, coffee — and it was a nice touch that they even had ice cups!

The crispy gangjeong in particular was quietly addictive — I kept reaching for more even after the meal. On an occasion as important as a parent's birthday, it's not just the taste but the space and the service that stay with you.

Snacks on display for separate purchase at the restaurant

There were also snacks available for separate purchase, which seemed like a nice option for gifting to friends.

Geumdeungeo Deulanguil left us satisfied all around — friendly service, a private room, food cooked right after ordering. If you're looking for a Suseong Lake Korean set meal or a clean, dependable Deulanguil restaurant for a business dinner or family gathering, it's worth a visit👏🏻

I'd also recommend trying to get the freshly fried ppeongtwigi (puffed rice snack) they gave out through a review event!
