Suseong-gu Daegu Indian restaurant with mild spice: Rama & Bavana

In short

Rama & Bavana Suseong Lake Branch is a 20-year-old Indian restaurant on the second floor of a building facing Suseong Lake in Suseong-gu, Daegu. The writer came straight from an OB-GYN appointment with her mother and they walked in as the first customers at the 11:30 opening, ordering beef curry with extra rice and naan, butter garlic shrimp, Welch's and zero-sugar Pepsi. The spicing at Rama & Bavana was gentle enough for a mother who is sensitive to strong aromas, and the two dishes made a generous lunch for two.

My husband had plans in the morning, so I took my mom to the OB-GYN — it had been a while. We had a great time seeing our baby's ultrasound, and headed to Suseong Lake for lunch afterward feeling good. It had been ages since I'd been back, and the weather was so bright and breezy that it was perfect for a walk. Good weather calls for good food, right?

Where is Rama & Bavana Suseong Lake Branch, and where do you park?

We visited Rama & Bavana Suseong Lake Branch, already famous as a go-to meeting spot in Suseong-gu, Daegu, and as a date course by Suseong Lake. Parking is available behind the building — after parking, head up to the 2nd floor and you'll see Rama & Bavana :)

Honestly, I'm a regular here who's come back more times than I can count. It's a representative Indian restaurant in Daegu with a 20-year history, and it's such a genuine local favorite that people from India and Nepal actually come here as regulars too.

Walking in as the first customers at the 11:30 opening

We arrived right at the 11:30 opening as the very first customers. The interior was spacious and comfortable with a great view by the window, and I was glad I'd brought my mom along. It's an open-kitchen setup too, so you can watch the cooking happen, which made everything feel more hygienic and trustworthy.

What to order for two at Rama & Bavana: beef curry and butter garlic shrimp

You might think an Indian restaurant would be pricey, but Rama & Bavana Suseong Lake Branch has very reasonable prices, so you can try a variety of dishes without worrying too much. We ordered beef curry (with rice and naan added), butter garlic shrimp, Welch's, and zero-sugar Pepsi! It was a generous and satisfying combination for two people.

By the way, there's a Naver visitor review event going on, so if you visit, make sure to join and grab the benefits!

Is the beef curry mild enough for someone sensitive to spices?

The beef curry arrived first, and it was the definition of 'sticking to the basics while still having deep flavor.' The tender beef came in big chunks, not tough at all, with a texture that pulled apart along the grain beautifully in the mouth.

The spice aroma wasn't overwhelming and was well balanced for Korean tastes, so even my mom, who's sensitive to spices, kept lifting her spoon saying, 'This is really savory and delicious.'

Tearing off a piece of the freshly baked, chewy naan and dipping it deep into the spicy-sweet, rich curry sauce was pure heaven. Mixing it into the fluffy rice was just as dangerously good — you can't stop eating it.

Butter garlic shrimp: garlic flavor without the heaviness

Next up, the butter garlic shrimp caught the eye from the moment it arrived. The savory butter flavor and the sharp, sweet aroma of garlic lingered gently while the plump, springy shrimp burst with texture — it was truly a work of art.

A butter sauce like this can easily get heavy, but the garlic flavor kept it from feeling greasy, so we enjoyed it fully to the last bite. The savory depth of the beef curry paired with the rich flavor of the butter garlic shrimp balanced each other out perfectly — I'd strongly recommend ordering this combination.
