Yeouido tteokbokki takeout with liver and lung sundae: Hyeonseonine

I was trying to figure out what to eat for dinner and ended up at Hyeonseonine, a tteokbokki place that's well known in Yeouido. It's always good, but this time I got it packed to go and ate it at home for the first time.

Where is Hyeonseonine Premium IFC Mall Branch, and what are its hours?

Hyeonseonine's Yeouido branch is on basement level 2 of IFC Mall. The address is 10 Gukjegeumyung-ro, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, IFC Mall B2, Hyeonseonine Premium.

If you come out toward Exit 3 of Yeouido Station, there's a moving walkway, and the shop is next to the GS convenience store before you reach the IFC Mall entrance. It's right on the way from Yeouido to IFC, so it's easy to stop by whenever you're passing through — I actually think of it often when I'm in that area.

⏰ Hours: Mon–Fri 11:00–21:00 (last order 20:40) / Sat–Sun 12:00–21:00 (last order 20:40). Since they stay open fairly late, it seems like a good spot to grab takeout after work.

What comes in the 23,000-won Hyeonseoni Set, and how is it packed for takeout?

There are all sorts of menu items including instant tteokbokki, but what we ordered was the Hyeonseoni Set. It costs ₩23,000 and comes packed with tteokbokki, sundae, fried snacks, and mini gimbap (seaweed rice roll) — a really full spread.

They packed it in this cute shopping bag, which made it easy to carry home haha. It's got some real weight to it too.

The shop has tables even outdoors, but there's a wait during lunchtime as a given. If you want to eat there for lunch without waiting, you basically have to come either really early or really late!

Opening the Hyeonseoni Set at home: how spicy is medium tteokbokki?

Once we opened it up, everything had been packed neatly by dish. Nothing had leaked or smeared — totally clean! Just from that alone, you can tell whoever packed it really knows what they're doing.

Ooh, such an appetizing look. You can adjust the spice level for the tteokbokki, and since I like spicy food but not TOO spicy, I went with medium. The general rule is that 'medium' means about Shin Ramyun spicy level, right?

But it seemed a bit milder than other places' version of Shin Ramyun spicy! Even better honestly. Once I transferred the tteokbokki to a bowl it filled it right up — the portion was bigger than I expected. There aren't other vegetables inside, just fish cake and rice cakes mainly!

Mini gimbap with sesame oil, eaten with the tteokbokki

Honestly, this mini gimbap alone is enough reason for me to come back to Hyeonseonine often. It has this really nutty sesame oil smell wafting off it, and it tastes amazing while also being surprisingly filling. It's great for a simple lunch too, and even when I only go there thinking about tteokbokki, the smell of this gimbap always makes me order it anyway. Tteokbokki plus mini gimbap is a combo with no words needed.

Sundae packed with liver and lung as well

I got it packed with liver for my husband since he loves sundae (Korean blood sausage). The liver that comes with the sundae tends to be seasoned nice and salty! They pack the liver and lung together too. This was my husband's first time trying Hyeonseonine's tteokbokki, and he's a bit of a picky eater, so I was curious how he'd react — sure enough, he said it was delicious, passed with flying colors haha.

I like lung too, so I happily dipped it in the tteokbokki sauce. As for the fried snacks, since I'm a vegetable fritter lover, taking a bite whenever it feels a bit too spicy makes a great combo.

Is one Hyeonseoni Set enough dinner for two?

We got this packed for dinner that day, and even with my husband and me eating together, there was still leftovers even after eating our fill. On days I don't feel like cooking, takeout like this is perfect for a simple dinner or lunch. And there's barely any dishes to wash afterward — how great is that?

This is why I love this mini gimbap — the filling is such a basic combo, but it's still so satisfying. The egg omelet layer is thick, and the combination of ham, pickled radish, and imitation crab together with sesame oil is genuinely delicious. It has kind of a classic, old-school gimbap feel, I'd say...? It's called 'mini' but honestly tastes better than regular gimbap.

The squid fritter is also packed full inside. Every single item in Hyeonseonine's set menu feels substantial, so it's hard to imagine cutting anything out. As the weather gets colder now, I think next time I'll go back and eat the instant tteokbokki hot and fresh at the shop haha.
