The moment I walked in, these pitch-black potato breads greeted me, looking like they'd just come out of a wood-fired oven 😆 honestly they looked exactly like potatoes freshly dug from the soil 🥔

Why is Sokcho's potato bread black?

Opened it up the second I got home 👏👏

Four black potato breads opened up at home

The secret behind that eye-catching black color is squid ink, carrying the color of Sokcho itself 👏👏 It's not artificially burnt — it's made to be healthy while keeping the nostalgic feel of old-fashioned wood-oven potatoes 🤩 I was too full that day, so I froze it!!

How to store and reheat the potato bread

  • Room temperature: microwave 20 seconds
  • Frozen: microwave 30 seconds → flip and 20 seconds more
  • For extra crispiness: air fryer at 180℃ for 5 minutes
  • Frozen in the air fryer: 180℃ for 10–15 minutes

👉 If you bought it same-day and left it at room temperature, just 20 seconds in the microwave gives you that chewy texture 😊

How the microwaved potato bread tasted

Since it was frozen, I did 30 seconds in the microwave → flipped it and did 20 more, but it still felt a bit cold, so I added 10 more seconds and it was just right 🤤 When I cut it in half, the outside was wonderfully chewy thanks to rice flour and domestic grain flours (black sesame, black beans, etc.), and the inside was soft with baked Gangwon-do potato, cream cheese, and butter, so you really get that potato texture 😍 There's no artificial sweetness, so it works great as a light meal too — adults with coffee, kids with milk, it's a perfect pairing!

They don't boil the potatoes — they bake them fresh every morning and peel them by hand, using deep-sea water from the East Sea and no synthetic additives, made fresh daily. That made me trust it even more 👏👍

Sokcho jjondeugi as a gift to share

Instead of a fancy gift, this is the kind of thoughtful little thing you can casually hand to people around you, so I shared the jjondeugi with friends and they went crazy asking what it was, saying it was so good 😆😆 Sokcho jjondeugi comes in snow crab, squid, and dakgangjeong (sweet fried chicken) flavors, so it's fun to pick and choose too!
