Songjeong, Busan Japanese restaurant with tori-don bowls: Yuok
In short
Yuok is an Osaka-style eel rice bowl restaurant on Songjeong-gangbyeon-ro in Haeundae-gu, Busan. Hosting a friend's family visiting from Ulsan, the writer ordered the jumbo unaju set, saba ochazuke, a salmon rice bowl and tori-don (chicken rice bowl) to share, and even arriving at 1:30 p.m. there was a wait, though the first-floor yard and pond kept the kids busy. For anyone hunting the best eel rice bowl in Busan, Yuok is the first recommendation.

A friend's family came to visit from Ulsan and I was looking for a good restaurant when Yuok immediately came to mind as the best Japanese restaurant in Songjeong, Busan. I invited them over and we ate so well — it was also a great spot to bring their little niece.
Traffic to Songjeong gets heavy on weekends, but since you're already there you can hit the outlet mall too, and Yuok is just so good that I end up going often. If you time it with opening hours, there's no wait.

Yuok, a top Japanese restaurant in Songjeong, Busan, specializes in Osaka-style eel rice bowls, so even the exterior gives off a distinctly Japanese feel.

Parking and wait times at Yuok in Songjeong
There's a private lot in front of the restaurant, but Yuok is so popular it's always full. Still, roadside parking nearby means you don't have to worry — driving there is easy enough.
I deliberately arrived around 1:30pm to try to avoid the wait, but there was still a line. A wait is basically guaranteed here, but it's worth it given how good the food is.

You can wait in the first-floor yard space or on the second floor. Pets are hard to bring to most places, but here you can bring them along with a cage cover or pet stroller sunshade.
Walking around while waiting made the time pass quickly — there were even fish in the pond. Watching them with the baby, our turn came up fast 😇

Yuok's seating and menu
At Yuok, a top eel rice bowl restaurant in Songjeong, Busan, most of the restaurant is counter seating, with three 4-person tables as well. The space is fairly large, so turnover is good.

Yuok's signature dish in Songjeong is the jumbo unaju set, and everything else — saba ochazuke, salmon bowl, tori-don — is delicious too, so we ordered them all.

Each menu item comes with detailed instructions on the best way to eat it, so you can follow the recommended order first and then finish the rest however you like.

Once you order, everything comes out together after a short wait, so there's no waiting around between dishes — everyone can eat together.

Jumbo unaju: Yuok's grilled eel rice bowl set
The jumbo unaju eel rice bowl is Osaka-style — incredibly thick with real eel flavor coming through. The rice isn't plain white rice either, it's mixed with tare sauce, so even the rice alone tastes great 💛

Salmon rice bowl and fried shrimp at Yuok
Ordering the salmon bowl also gets you fried shrimp, which is great as a snack for the baby too. It comes out freshly fried and super crispy, and paired with the soft salmon bowl, the balance is perfect!

Tori-don, my husband's favorite dish at Yuok
My husband's favorite dish at Yuok is the tori-don. Tender chicken thigh grilled with tare sauce comes out fully infused with charcoal aroma 😙

Finishing the meal with saba ochazuke
At Yuok, you don't just eat the rice bowl — in true Japanese style, you finish the small amount of rice left over as ochazuke (rice in savory broth), and it cuts through the richness at the end perfectly.

The eel bowl uses good quality eel, so it's rich with fat, but it's so good that even piled high with wasabi, it's not spicy at all.

The rolled egg hidden underneath the jumbo unaju bowl is also Japanese-style, incredibly soft and delicious. A lot of people don't love eel bowls because of the bones, but here you never hit a single bone — that shows how much handwork goes into each one 🐷
My husband's favorite way to eat the tori-don is with the scallions and seaweed flakes provided, mixed right into the bowl — it also goes really well with wasabi.
We finished the meal with a glass of plum juice to help digestion. Our friend's couple visiting from Ulsan were completely satisfied and said it was so delicious.

Everyone scraped their bowls clean, not a grain left. It's delicious every single time, so if you're looking for the number one eel rice bowl restaurant, my top pick as the best Japanese restaurant in Songjeong, Busan is Yuok.
