Late lunch with my daughter: jumbo eel set three ways at Yuok, Busan
In short
Yuok is a Japanese donburi restaurant on Songjeong Riverside Road in Haeundae-gu, Busan. On a weekday late lunch with her daughter, the writer ordered the jumbo unaju set (₩28,500) and ate the eel and rice three ways — plain, topped with wasabi, seaweed and green onion, and finally as ochazuke. A thick Japanese-style rolled omelet hidden under the eel made the meal filling, and the wasabi combination was her favorite.

Yuok, a Busan Songjeong restaurant I visited for a late weekday lunch with my daughter during our trip!

We tried the jumbo unaju set, topped with a big piece of eel and a thick rolled omelet. We ate the eel donburi plain first, then added wasabi, seaweed and green onion, and finished with ochazuke — so it was fun getting several different flavors out of one dish, haha. The eel portion was more generous than expected too, so my daughter and I left our late lunch feeling really full.

Japanese vibes before you even walk in
Yuok sits on Songjeong Riverside Road, and the exterior already felt very different from a typical restaurant.

With bamboo and a pond, even the outdoor space was decorated in a Japanese style, so there were plenty of photo spots even before going inside.

Once inside, there were table seats and counter seats. Since we visited during a late weekday lunch, we were able to eat fairly relaxed.

If you're looking for a Songjeong Station restaurant that's calmer than a noisy spot, this seemed like a good place for a slow meal. We sat at the counter, where instructions for how to enjoy each dish were written right in front of us.

Even for a dish I was trying for the first time, it was helpful to see exactly how to eat it. The instructions covered not just the jumbo unaju I ordered but also the tori-don, mackerel ochazuke, and maze udon.

What's on the menu at Yuok?

The menu was simpler than expected. The set meals include jumbo unaju, salmon donburi, tori-don, and mackerel ochazuke.

There were also à la carte items like maze udon, tempura udon, karaage, and tamago tempura.

There's also a separate kids' bento, so it seemed like a fine place to visit with children. I came in already planning to eat eel donburi, haha, so I didn't think much about the other menu items and ordered right away.
Jumbo Unaju Set — ₩28,500

Looking around at Busan eel donburi places these days, some are priced quite high, but once the set arrived, it was more generous than I expected.

That eel size caught my eye right away

The moment the jumbo unaju arrived, the visual grabbed me. A big piece of eel covered the rice, glazed with shiny sauce — the kind of look that instantly makes you want rice, haha. True to the name
