A stylish Chinese restaurant in Ingye-dong, Suwon?

I found myself thinking, "was there really a restaurant with this kind of atmosphere in Suwon?" — an upscale Chinese restaurant that feels almost out of place in Ingye-dong. I live near Ingye-dong and go there all the time, so I was surprised I'd never noticed a spot with such a great vibe before. The atmosphere is wonderful and all the staff were so kind, so it's a great place for dates, blind dates, or group gatherings.

As a spot for great food in Ingye-dong, Suwon, it's in the alley right behind Suwon City Hall, so it's a great choice if you're looking for a Suwon City Hall restaurant too. It's run directly by chefs who came from hotel Chinese restaurants, and Peking duck is their signature dish.

Gang's Duck menu and why you should book ahead

Besides the signature Peking duck, there's dongpo-yuk, black pepper fried pork, mapo tofu, mapo cream shrimp, eggplant in fish-fragrant sauce, spicy chicken (lazi ji), and more — a lot of dishes that stand apart from the usual Chinese food you'd expect, so it's really great for a special occasion haha.

We booked ahead and were able to try both the Peking duck and the dongpo-yuk! If you're planning to eat dongpo-yuk or Peking duck at Gang's Duck, a Suwon City Hall restaurant favorite, I'd recommend booking through Naver Reservations in advance. If you go without reserving the duck or dongpo-yuk specifically, you might not be able to order because the ingredients run out... ㅜ

At the very back of Gang's Duck, you can watch the chef carving the Peking duck himself. The lighting suits the space so well, the interior is gorgeous, and watching the chef work was genuinely impressive.

The Peking duck can be ordered as a half serving for 2-3 people, or as a whole duck for 4, so you can order according to your group size. When you order the duck, it comes with shredded scallion, cucumber strips, a special house sauce, yabing (thin wheat pancakes), and crystal sugar.

I ordered just the two main dishes and tried them both — the dongpo-yuk was so tender and delicious. There's also a dongpo-yuk rice bowl, but it's a lunch-only item, so if dongpo-yuk feels like too much for lunch, I'd recommend trying that bowl instead.

The meat was so tender and delicious — an absolute pass! Since we only ordered the two mains this time, we missed out on trying the fried rice or noodle dishes, which was a bit disappointing. Next time I'll order one duck or dongpo-yuk plus a side dish. I actually thought about ordering a side this time too, but we were already so full after just the two mains that we couldn't manage it ㅠ

Peking duck dipped in house sauce and sugar

I'd had Peking duck once before at another restaurant, but Gang's Duck, a great Ingye-dong restaurant in Suwon, was so much better quality and tastier.

It was also my first time wrapping duck in yabing pancakes, and it was so delicious dipped in Gang's Duck's own house sauce.

It was also my first time dipping Peking duck in sugar, and it worked so much better than I expected — it really brought out the duck's flavor in a surprising way! haha So good.

Fried duck legs that come with the Peking duck order

They brought out a dish we hadn't ordered, and I was like, huh...? Turns out duck leg fritters come free with a Peking duck order haha. It was my first time trying duck leg, and the strong spice flavor meant there was no gamey taste at all — it had a bold, punchy flavor. It completely cut through the richness of the dongpo-yuk in one bite, making it a perfect little extra to eat alongside the mains.

Private room for groups of 7 or more, plus venue rental

Here's why I recommend it as a great-atmosphere restaurant in Ingye-dong! The interior is gorgeous, and thanks to the black-tone design, it feels even more upscale and modern. The seating is spaced generously, with a mix of 4-top and 6-top tables, so it doesn't feel cramped even for group gatherings.

For reservations of 7 or more, you can use the private room, which I recommend if you want a more private gathering. Venue rental is also possible — call ahead with your headcount and schedule and they'll walk you through it.

Chinese liquor and baijiu, with free corkage

Gang's Duck, a popular Suwon City Hall restaurant known as a Chinese drinking spot, also sells traditional Chinese liquors and baijiu to pair with the upscale food. If you love drinking, zoom in on the photos and see if your favorite traditional liquor is on the list before you visit. If there's a specific drink you want, corkage is free, so it's a Chinese dining spot where you can bring along whatever you love drinking.

Gang's Duck, a great restaurant in Ingye-dong, Suwon, sits in the alley right behind Suwon City Hall, about a 5-minute walk from Suwon City Hall Station. Where to park near Gang's Duck in Suwon

Since it's tucked in an Ingye-dong alley, there's no on-site parking lot. It's close to Suwon City Hall, though, so you can conveniently park at the main gate parking lot there. Just note there's no separate parking support provided.
