Cheonan jjukkumi hot plate with extra cheese and fried rice: Bulnaneun
In short
Bulnaneun Jjukkumi Yuryang Direct Branch is a jjukkumi (spicy webfoot octopus) restaurant in a standalone building in Yuryang-dong, Dongnam-gu, Cheonan. Visiting with college friends at 2pm, the writer ordered the jjukkumi-samgyeop (octopus and pork belly) hot plate in medium size with extra cheese, then finished with fried rice topped with more cheese and scraped straight off the pan. Spice level is adjustable at Bulnaneun Jjukkumi, so even people who can't take heat can enjoy the meal, and the fried rice finish is a must.

Parking at Bulnaneun Jjukkumi: a standalone building with a lot full even at 2pm

I took a trip to Cheonan with my college friends! Looking for somewhere we hadn't been, we picked Cheonan. As soon as we met up we were starving and went looking for a place to eat — Bulnaneun Jjukkumi Yuryang Direct Branch.
It's a standalone building! Right off the bat, it has a parking lot, so pass mark! It was full, but a car pulled out right in front of us just as we arrived — lucky! We got there almost at 2pm, well past lunch rush, and there were still so many cars!!!!
Inside Bulnaneun Jjukkumi: wide seating on both sides for groups and families

There were so many people I couldn't take many photos ㅠㅠ but the inside was really spacious!! You walk in and there's space to the left and to the right of the entrance! So group parties are possible too!!! It looked like a solid spot for a family outing or a get-together — there were a lot of families there!

They even had a phone charging spot set up like this! Nice touch!
Menu and order rules: minimum 2 servings, one menu per person

Here's the menu! You can order a minimum of 2 servings per menu item and spice level, and single-serving add-ons aren't allowed. There are set menus too! Stir-fry + hot pot rice + shrimp, stir-fry + perilla noodle soup + rice, jjukkumi-samgyeop + hot pot rice, and more.
After some deliberation we went with the hot plate jjukkumi-samgyeop!!!! Because fried rice lovers gotta have the fried rice ^.^ Jjukkumi-samgyeop hot plate (medium) + extra cheese. Mild, medium, and hot are the spice levels! And it's one menu per person!
Self-serve banchan bar: chilled cucumber soup and thick pickled radish wraps
Here's the self-serve bar.

If any of the side dishes run low, you can just grab more from the self-serve bar! And an apron is a must too, in case the sauce splatters~
The banchan (side dishes) came out — cold cucumber soup, bean sprouts, radish salad, lettuce, iceberg salad. When you're eating the jjukkumi stir-fry, it's nice to mix in the bean sprouts and radish salad.
The cold cucumber soup pairs perfectly with the jjukkumi. It's spicy, so I kept going back for more...
The pickled radish wasn't in the basic set, so I grabbed it from the self-serve bar! The pieces were huge! Do they make it themselves???
Jjukkumi-samgyeop hot plate (medium) with extra cheese

Jjukkumi-samgyeop with extra cheese!!! It finally arrived..!! It was around 2pm so I was really starving.
Isn't the cheese visual insane?? I'd never seen cheese come out looking like this ㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ
The jjukkumi visual... very substantial. The pieces were huge! Because they're so big, the texture is great — really chewy.

Here's the pork belly visual. You get to enjoy spicy, plump jjukkumi together with savory pork belly! The pork belly tames the jjukkumi's spiciness! The jjukkumi and pork belly combo works better together than I expected.
Let's try it with the cheese.

The plump jjukkumi is loaded with sauce, so true to the name Bulnaneun ("on fire") Jjukkumi, it looks spicy and appetite-awakening just by looking at it.

This time, add the pork belly too!

Is the mild spice level still too hot for a spice wimp?
I loved that you could choose the spice level, but even the mild level was pretty spicy for a spice wimp like me ^^; Korean-standard mild = Shin Ramyun level.

Finishing the meal with cheese fried rice
The main event — fried rice! Extra cheese on the fried rice is non-negotiable ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ I was so full but my chopsticks kept going back for more. It's the perfect finishing dish!
We scraped it clean off the pan. Fried rice is basically dessert ^-^
Final verdict on Bulnaneun Jjukkumi in Cheonan
When you're craving spicy jjukkumi, I recommend Bulnaneun Jjukkumi Yuryang branch! You can adjust the spice level so even people who can't handle heat can enjoy it without worry, and it's also great for anyone who wants to blow off steam with something spicy!!!
