Grilled beef tripe for two in Seomyeon, Busan: Taepung Gopchang
In short
Taepung Gopchang is a Korean beef gopchang (tripe) and daechang (large intestine) grill restaurant in Seomyeon, Busan, a 5-minute walk from Seomyeon Station Exit 8. On a weekday 5:30pm reservation for two, the assorted gopchang set for two cost 36,000 won and the Korean beef gopchang hot pot 16,000 won, with the heart, tripe and large intestine arriving already grilled and the hot pot packed with glass noodles and gopchang. The fried rice had to be canceled because the kitchen was backed up, but Taepung Gopchang still makes a solid pick for a group dinner in Seomyeon.

Today was a date day with my mom! I heard there's a great gopchang (beef tripe) restaurant near Seomyeon 1-ga, so I went straight there after work on a Friday~~ I try to eat and hang out with my parents as much as possible, but it's hard to find the time these days, which makes me kind of sad...

How to walk to Taepung Gopchang from Seomyeon Station

It's a 5-minute walk from Seomyeon Station Exit 8! Close to both the subway station and bus stops~ It's right across from Geujip Gopdoritang, famous for gopdoritang (spicy chicken and tripe stew)! There's no dedicated parking, so you'll need to use a paid parking lot :) There's outdoor seating too, so it seemed like it'd be nice to grill gopchang outside on a nice-weather day haha.
Inside Taepung Gopchang: seating and outdoor tables

We booked for around 5:30pm on a weekday! Since it was early there weren't many customers yet, but by the time we left it had gotten pretty busy~~ The seating was clean, with about 8 tables for four people!

The beef gopchang hot pot came out first! Whenever I go to a gopchang place I always order the hot pot without fail — I just love that bubbling stone-pot situation haha. It comes out nearly fully cooked, so you can dig in right away!

It was loaded with my favorite glass noodles! Full of vegetables too — mushrooms, sesame leaves, onions — and especially generous with gopchang and daechang (large intestine). Just ordering this hot pot alone could make for a filling meal! The broth is rich and deep, perfect alongside drinks, and just as good as a side dish with rice if you don't drink. You can add more noodles too, so go ahead and add some~

The assorted gopchang for two arrived! According to Taepung Gopchang, a Seomyeon gopchang restaurant, their assorted gopchang is
Made from beef tripe and large intestine that's been cleaned that same day and grilled directly over an open flame to remove any odor
That's how it's prepared!

Heart, gopchang and daechang all came already grilled, so it was convenient to eat right away! That said, the bracken fern, bean sprouts and kimchi come freshly added on top, so if you prefer everything grilled, I'd recommend putting those back on the burner!

The gopchang and daechang were both incredibly savory from the first bite~ Tender and light, and if it started to feel too rich, dipping it in the onion soy sauce that came alongside fixed that right up. Sipping beer in between and eating the grilled bean sprouts, bracken fern and potatoes together made for the perfect spread~~

Eating it with onion and green onion in between was delicious, and it paired really well with the side dishes too, so it went down easy! After finishing the gopchang hot pot we tried to order fried rice, but the order got stuck behind a backlog and took forever, so we ended up canceling it. It was a shame we didn't get to try the fried rice, but we still left having eaten well and satisfied!
Is Taepung Gopchang worth it for a Seomyeon group dinner?
By the time we were leaving there were quite a few customers, and it seemed like a place foreign visitors book ahead to visit too! If you're looking for a group dinner spot in Seomyeon or craving fresh gopchang after a while, I'd recommend this place~
