Half-and-half bossam and clam kalguksu in Goyang: Park Man-bae Arirang

I was looking for somewhere to eat around Wonheung and ended up at Park Man-bae Arirang Bossam, Wonheung Station Branch. I'd been craving bossam (boiled pork wrap) and this place looked like a solid Wonheung restaurant, so I went for it.

Where is Park Man-bae Arirang Bossam in Wonheung, and is there parking?

Park Man-bae Arirang Bossam, Wonheung Station Branch is near Wonheung Station, so it was easy to find. It's pretty close to Exit 2, so it'd be fine to get there by public transit too.

Going inside, the place was bigger and cleaner than I expected. The tables had plenty of space too, so it'd work well for two people eating together, or for a family or a bigger group.

Half-and-half bossam (small), 42,000 won: cabbage bossam and kimchi bossam

What we ordered was the half-and-half bossam (small) for 42,000 won. It lets you try both cabbage bossam and kimchi bossam, which is perfect for when you can't decide on just one.

The bossam came out more generous than I expected. Apparently Park Man-bae Arirang Bossam uses gabrisal (pork shoulder blade meat) instead of the usual cut, and maybe because it's sliced thin, it was easy to eat and had a pretty nice tender texture.

What side dishes come with the bossam?

Personally, my favorite combo was eating it with kimchi. Bossam is really all about the kimchi, right, haha. I kept reaching for more once I started putting kimchi on the meat and wrapping it in cabbage. From salad to kimchi for topping the kalguksu, to seasoned chives, to cheongyang chili and garlic — even the fish cakes were really tasty!!

How big is the free kalguksu serving?

I figured the free kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) would be a small side dish, but the portion turned out to be pretty substantial. Eating warm broth with noodles was the perfect way to finish off the bossam.

Overall the place was clean and the food came out neatly plated, so it'd be a solid choice for either a lunch or dinner spot.

I especially liked that when you want bossam near Wonheung Station, you can get two flavors at once with the half-and-half. Between the bossam and the kalguksu, I ended up pretty full haha.

Kalguksu or makguksu: which free noodle to pick?

When you order a bossam menu, you get to pick either kalguksu or makguksu (cold buckwheat noodles) for free, and after some deliberation we went with kalguksu. It had plenty of clams in it, and the broth was refreshing, so taking a sip between bites of meat was really nice.

A spoonful of warm broth in between bites of bossam really cut through the richness, so I felt good about choosing kalguksu. Next time I'll have to try the makguksu — I noticed the table next to us was digging into it happily.

I filmed a little clip of the springy meat so you can see the texture, haha. Get the vibe? It had that tender chew I love, so it just kept disappearing.

Wrap it in cabbage with ssamjang (dipping sauce) and some pickled radish strips, and eat it in one bite — it's really good, haha. Next visit I want to try the makguksu too :) I'll probably think of this place again whenever I'm looking for a Wonheung restaurant and craving bossam.
