In short

Ju Myeongdang is a dog-friendly late-night Korean restaurant on Jangdong-ro in Dongmyeong-dong, Dong-gu, Gwangju, open 11:30 to 23:30 with last order at 23:00. The writer visited with her dog Bbangbbangi and ordered the signature Imo Babsang set for two — straw-fire char siu bossam, straw-fire yangnyeom galbi and beef yukjeon (pan-fried beef) with kimchi jjigae, seasonal bibimbap and naengmyeon (cold noodles). All three meats tasted different enough that the meal never got boring, making Ju Myeongdang an easy pick for a night out with your dog.

Today I'm bringing you a story about a visit to Dongmyeong-dong in Gwangju with Bbangbbangi! I was looking for somewhere in Dongmyeong-dong with good food and a nice vibe, and that's how I ended up at Ju Myeongdang. Best of all, it's a place where dogs are allowed, which made me even happier 🐶🤍 I wanted to introduce this to anyone who loves hunting down Dongmyeong-dong restaurants, or anyone looking for a Gwangju restaurant they can visit with their dog!

The moment I arrived at Ju Myeongdang's entrance, one line caught my eye lol

You'd better not go anywhere else

I burst out laughing at this cheeky line right at the entrance 😂 It gave off Ju Myeongdang's own cute charm, and I already felt good before even walking in haha. Now let's head inside Ju Myeongdang :)

Once inside, I found there was even an event for people who wait, and little lines from Ju Myeongdang written here and there for you to read.

A delicious night with good people — dinner is Imo Babsang, and late night is Samchon Suljang

There was also a line that read, "We are a Dongmyeong-dong late-night restaurant that carefully sets out a warm table of straw-fire meat, no matter how late you arrive." It didn't feel like just a place selling food — it felt like they genuinely wanted to serve a warm meal even to guests who show up late, and that made my heart go soft 🥹 Seeing the line "Welcome. Your table is ready" made me feel like I'd walked into a warmly welcoming home. Reading these lines one by one made the space feel even more endearing 🤍

What we ordered: the signature Imo Babsang (recommended for 2)

What we ordered today was Ju Myeongdang's signature menu, Imo Babsang! It's their representative spread that lays out straw-fire char siu bossam, straw-fire yangnyeom galbi, and beef yukjeon along with kimchi jjigae, seasonal bibimbap (mixed rice with vegetables), and naengmyeon (cold noodles) all at once. Since it's recommended for two people, it seemed just right for the two of us, so we went straight for this menu haha. While waiting for the food to come out with Bbangbbangi, we got the basic table setup 🐶 We waited excitedly to see how Ju Myeongdang's signature Imo Babsang would look 🤍

And finally, the signature Imo Babsang arrived 🤤 Isn't the visual insane haha. The table was filled edge to edge, and every dish was plated so neatly it made me happy just to look at it! From straw-fire char siu bossam to straw-fire yangnyeom galbi to beef yukjeon, the main dishes were packed onto one table, plus kimchi jjigae, seasonal bibimbap, and naengmyeon — it was truly a proper Korean-style spread 👏🏻 With the food looking so neat, I ended up taking a ton of photos haha. Now let's see how it tastes, shall we?🤭

The seasonal bibimbap and doenjang jjigae combo

After all, rice is a Korean's strength!!! 🍚 I took a bite of the seasonal bibimbap first!! Made with fresh seasonal ingredients, it tasted fragrant and, I don't know, kind of healthy? haha. Mixed well with the sauce, the seasoning was just right, and with the doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) on the side, it went down so smoothly haha.

A savory doenjang jjigae loaded with enoki mushrooms and tofu haha. Honestly, the seasonal bibimbap and doenjang jjigae combo is the best... haha soothing your palate with the stew in between bites of meat is basically paradise haha 🤤❤️

Do I get some too...? It smells so good!!! Our Bbangbbangi looking hopeful ㅠㅠ🤍🤍🤍

How were the straw-fire char siu bossam, straw-fire yangnyeom galbi, and beef yukjeon?

Now for the real main event — the meats, one by one 🤤 First, the straw-fire char siu bossam had this subtle, spreading straw-fire aroma that was really charming! The meat was tender to bite into, with juicy, savory juices, and no gamey smell at all, so I kept reaching for more without any hesitation.

Then the straw-fire yangnyeom galbi had a sweet, salty sauce soaked deep into the meat that made me want to eat it with rice haha. With the added straw-fire aroma, it had a depth of flavor totally different from regular yangnyeom galbi. Lastly, I tried the beef yukjeon, and the tender beef paired with the savory egg coating made it light yet nutty and rich!

All three meats had slightly different tastes and textures, so switching between them kept me eating without ever getting tired of it 🤭 True to being the signature Imo Babsang, the meat dishes alone were seriously satisfying! Now add the bibim naengmyeon on top of the meat, and, ugh... you all know, right? haha. Mixing it up with the side dishes made everything taste even better — that's just how Ju Myeongdang is haha.

You can bring your dog

Bbangbbangi fell asleep exhausted from not getting any of the delicious food 😂 Sorry, next time noona will bring some snacks 😅❤️❤️ I loved that Ju Myeongdang allows dogs haha. Being able to eat with my sweet Bbangbbangi 🤍 The owner adored her too haha. And beyond the taste, Ju Myeongdang has this pretty interior that nails the mood too >.< I think it's really great haha. Next time I want to bring Bbangbbangi and her doggy friends to try the Samchon Babsang too!!! Having drinks with it would be amazing too 🍻🤣

Overall thoughts

💛 Overall thoughts 💛 Every dish was set out with real care overall, and I left Ju Myeongdang feeling great about the meal! In particular, the signature Imo Babsang let us enjoy a variety of meat dishes — straw-fire char siu bossam, straw-fire yangnyeom galbi, and beef yukjeon — all at once, and it was perfect for two people to eat heartily together.

The food was delicious, but the warm little lines written all over the place and the comfortable atmosphere made it feel less like just grabbing a meal and more like being warmly welcomed as a guest, which stuck with me even more 🤍 And on the way out, they even gave us a little candy 🍬 That thoughtful touch right to the end made me smile as I left haha. Being able to visit with Bbangbbangi was great too, and I think this is a place worth visiting for anyone looking for a Dongmyeong-dong restaurant, a Gwangju restaurant, or a Dongmyeong-dong bar with good atmosphere!
