What an elementary-school son ate: steamed blue crab and salmon sashimi

My son loves sushi normally, so while deciding which Nowon sushi buffet to try, Kuu Kuu's wide menu range won out. From the sushi corner to steak and dessert, the salad-bar layout stretches out generously, making it fun to pick things freely — I never make steamed crab at home because of the smell, so he dug in with real gusto. Rather than sushi, he went for salmon sashimi, and made quick work of the mul-hoe, steamed oysters, and yukhoe.

Watching him go after fresh salmon sashimi and various sushi, bringing back a little of this and that on multiple trips to find what he liked — the space was spread out roomy enough that moving around felt relaxed and easy, which made it even better.

Mul-hoe had come up on TV recently and I'd been craving it, so eating it fresh like this made me unreasonably happy — pure bliss, really.

Grilling steak fresh on the spot, picking up lamb chops with his hands and tearing in neatly, dipping into the sauce — my food-savvy son looked so cute enjoying it all. Definitely the right call for a weekend outing meal.

Dining with kids: bunsik snacks, kids' menu and noodle dishes

Beyond kids' menu items like sundae (blood sausage), fried items, tteokbokki, corn dogs, pasta, and LA galbi, there was a full lineup of snack-style dishes kids especially love — shrimp fritters, sweet potato fritters, squid fritters — and separate noodle and soup options like udon or ramen for when we got a little tired of everything else.

The dessert corner had a wide variety of ice cream and cakes, which was what my son had been looking forward to most as the final course.
