Ring studio in Suwon's Haenggung-dong: friendship rings at Loventa

Loventa Suwon Haenggung: an indoor date course in Haenggung-dong, Suwon

Loventa Suwon Haenggung is a ring-making studio on the 3rd floor at 22 Jeongjo-ro 861beon-gil, Paldal-gu, Suwon-si, Gyeonggi-do, open daily 11:00–19:30. If you're looking for a special date in Suwon's Haenggung-dong, I'd recommend a ring-making workshop! Hahaha.

I visited with a friend to make friendship rings. Whether it's a college couple, friends making friendship rings, or a memory-ring session with your parents, this makes a great date course with pretty much anyone. Making a ring yourself carries a different meaning than just buying and wearing one, right? (The temperature, the humidity, the lighting that day... who knows, haha.)

What the shop looks like inside and out, plus the restroom

Most buildings in Haenggung-dong look pretty old, but the building housing Loventa is a clean, newly built one! Head up to the 3rd floor and Loventa is right there.

There's also a restroom inside the store. It's separated for men and women, so it's easy and comfortable to use!

There's a display of finished ring designs, and they were all so pretty... I wanted them all.

What the private room workshop at Loventa is like

One of the biggest features of Loventa Haenggung is that the workshop space is set up as individual private rooms. There are studios where several groups make rings together in one shared space, but for me, having this kind of separate, independent space felt way more comfortable, haha.

The view was nice too! Perfect for chatting away while you make your ring.

There's even a spot to put your bag, haha. I love these little touches so much.

Choosing a friendship ring design and ring size

Before making the ring, you first choose which design to make. There were way more design options than I expected — from simple basic bands to slightly more three-dimensional designs to ones with stones set in, so you can pick whatever suits your taste.

Every single ring design was pretty, haha. Since I was doing this with a friend, I went for a simple design!

Once you pick a design, you try on sizing rings like this to find your fit. Because the ring loosens a bit during the making process, I'd recommend going a little tight — resizing to make it bigger is possible as an aftercare service, but making it smaller is difficult!

About an hour of filing, sanding, and polishing by hand

You start the workshop wearing an apron this cute, haha. It's not difficult at all, and the instructor guides you well, so no worries!

It was also great for capturing photos of the making process and the finished result. There was even a tripod set up for this, hahaha.

For about an hour, you personally go through the process of filing, sanding, polishing, and so on. As you keep at it, you find yourself weirdly focused. Maybe because it's not something you can easily try in everyday life, it was more fun than I expected, hahaha.

It's a totally different feeling from just sitting and chatting at a café! There's a real enjoyment in watching the ring slowly take shape as you go.

Maybe because I made it with my own hands, the finished ring felt a bit different, in a good way, haha. We don't go through the entire polishing process ourselves to the very end — after the hands-on workshop is done, a professional craftsperson finishes the work. So the upside is that you get the fun of making it yourself while still ending up with a polished, finished result.

Picking up the finished rings and the polaroid photo

About 2 hours after finishing the workshop, they contact you and you go pick up the ring! (Courier delivery is also available, of course.) And right now, as part of a promotion, they take a polaroid photo for you too — that turned into a nice keepsake, haha.

When I got the finished ring in hand — oh wow, it was even prettier than I expected!! It really looks great in person, no joke.

Rather than just handing over the ring on its own, the packaging is done neatly too, so I think it'd make a good gift as well. From making it yourself to the finished ring to the packaging, it all felt like one connected experience, so I think it'd be a great visit for an anniversary date too!

Silver 925 material and Loventa's aftercare (AS) terms

Loventa says they use Sterling Silver with 92.5% silver content, meaning Silver 925. For designs with stones, they use moissanite instead of cubic zirconia.

• They take care of basic cleaning, polishing, and removing everyday scratches free of charge.
• You can get aftercare service at any Loventa branch, and stone re-setting is also possible.
• Resizing to make the ring bigger is also free if you visit within a month.
