Seongsan restaurant open at 8am before the Udo ferry: Jejurowoon

In short

Jejurowoon Cheonghaewon Seongsan Ilchulbong Branch is a Korean seafood restaurant in Seongsan, Seogwipo, Jeju, near Seongsan Ilchulbong and Seopjikoji, serving braised hairtail and hot stone pot rice sets. A couple arrived right at the 8am opening before catching the ferry to Udo island and shared two servings of the A set at 24,000 won per person, and Jejurowoon was nearly full by 8:30. The braised hairtail sauce was thick with no fishy taste, and with grilled tilefish and a seafood hot pot alongside it made a filling Jeju breakfast.

Today, after staying near Seongsan Ilchulbong, we went to Jejurowoon Cheonghaewon Seongsan Ilchulbong Branch for breakfast before heading to Udo island. Two of us, a couple who both eat well, ordered two servings of the A set.

Conclusion: totally satisfied! Since we came to Jeju, we had to eat braised hairtail, and this place was perfect for that craving haha.

In front of the shop there were also lots of Jeju-related products, so it seems like a good spot if you need to grab last-minute souvenirs.

We visited right at the 8am opening time on a Tuesday, and from 8:30 people slowly kept coming in until it was almost full. It must really be a famous spot. Our pick for today's breakfast wasn't wrong at all.

Jejurowoon Cheonghaewon Seongsan Ilchulbong Branch: hours and location

The hours are from 8am to 9pm — a very generous stretch.

Near Seongsan Ilchulbong and Seopjikoji, it's a great concept: braised hairtail and a warm stone pot rice spread. I'd highly recommend climbing Seongsan Ilchulbong to catch sunrise and then coming here for breakfast.

Inside Jejurowoon Cheonghaewon: seating at 8am

The interior of Jejurowoon Cheonghaewon Seongsan Ilchulbong Branch is spacious and clean, with plenty of tables! I'd recommend it to travelers in Jeju looking for a hearty meal. The disposable cups are nice and hygienic too!

What the A set includes, the price and reservations

Let me tell you about the set composition. We ordered the A set and chose the seafood hot pot. Next time I'll come back for the sea urchin seaweed soup haha.

Soy sauce marinated crab, grilled tilefish, braised hairtail, and seafood hot pot together — such a good, generous combo, right? At ₩24,000 per person, the price felt pretty fair too.

For families, groups, or parties of 8 or more, they say calling ahead lets them set the table faster, and Naver Reservation is quick too. We went after booking through Naver Reservation haha.

Hello there

Hot stone pot rice instead of plain rice, plus nurungji

Group shot haha. But do you know something? The most important thing at a restaurant is 'how the rice tastes'...

Jejurowoon Cheonghaewon doesn't serve plain rice — it's proper stone pot rice. There's quite a lot of it too, and you can make nurungji (scorched rice) from it, which I loved. The whole spread felt generous, like being treated to a variety of dishes.

Soy sauce marinated crab (ganjang gejang)

The soy sauce marinated crab wasn't overly salty or sweet — the sweet-and-salty balance was just like at a real specialty restaurant.

The side dishes

The side dishes were nearly all neat and tidy, and there was even some corn cheese mixed in.

It's legendary. You can get a really filling meal here. It's a great place to eat after touring Seongsan Ilchulbong, or as a meal stop on a Seopjikoji trip.

They say it's about 7 minutes by car from Seongsan Ilchulbong, and about 3 minutes from Seopjikoji and Aqua Planet. It seems like an especially good spot for families, for bringing parents along, or for dining with a baby. Seongsan's go-to braised hairtail restaurant, Jejurowoon. In fact, there were a lot of families at other tables besides ours.

How does the seafood hot pot taste?

This is the seafood hot pot. It has a doenjang (soybean paste) base with two pieces of crab body inside. My boyfriend kept eating and going 'whoa' — it was seriously delicious.

The braised hairtail had a thick broth, but it was still a proper full broth, so it went down easily. That rich, mellow broth was the best.

The grilled tilefish was the best dish

This is the grilled tilefish. It felt a bit more like frying than grilling? Everything else was tasty too, but this was the best of all for me. Crispy, and easy to pick the bones out. Pure, clean grilled fish!!! Eating it with plain white rice was heavenly.

Oh, and they say there's no break time either. You can visit comfortably around your sightseeing schedule, and reservations are easy too. Even past lunchtime, or if you want a late meal after touring, you can drop by without worry. Parking is available in front of the restaurant.

Braised hairtail: taste and portion size

This braised hairtail was really, really delicious. Not a hint of fishy taste, just a thick, mellow broth that was the best — a textbook example of what braised hairtail should taste like. I almost ordered another bowl of rice just to mix into the broth, ugh.

The portion of hairtail was for two servings and quite satisfying to eat. If the portion had been small, playing the 'who eats less' game with your companion would be sad. This braised hairtail spot in Seongsan, Jejurowoon, has good portions.

Is Jejurowoon Cheonghaewon worth it for breakfast?

  • Recommended for anyone wanting braised hairtail near Seongsan Ilchulbong, a very Jeju-style dish
  • Recommended if you want a generous, neat spread combining braised fish, seafood hot pot, stone pot rice, soy sauce marinated crab, and grilled tilefish
  • A great place to bring elderly family members or parents!
