Dog-friendly outdoor seating chimaek in Seongnam: Jangjakgun Main
In short
Jangjakgun Main Branch is a wood-fired chicken restaurant near Dandaeogeori Station in Seongnam, Gyeonggi, known for nurungji (crispy rice) chicken. At the time of visit, the outdoor yajang seating allowed dogs, so the writer brought her dog Rocky along for half-and-half nurungji chicken, rice balls, and two draft Hanmaek beers. A great pick for anyone wanting chimaek (chicken and beer) with their dog on a cool evening.

The evenings have been getting cooler lately, which is perfect for chimaek (chicken and beer) in outdoor seating. This time I visited Jangjakgun, a restaurant near Dandaeogeori Station that I could bring Rocky to. They serve nurungji (crispy scorched rice) chicken grilled over wood, and when I visited, dogs were allowed in the outdoor yajang seating, so I brought Rocky along too.

We ordered half-and-half nurungji chicken, rice balls, and two draft Hanmaek beers.

Nurungji chicken with draft beer in the outdoor seating — the pairing worked way better than I expected.
Where is Jangjakgun, the Dandaeogeori restaurant?
Jangjakgun is located at 340 Sanseong-daero, Jungwon-gu, Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi-do. It's near Dandaeogeori Station, so it's a decent spot to reach by public transit too.
As soon as I arrived, the stacks of firewood and the flames out front made it clear I was in for real wood-fired chicken. In the evening, the lighting turns on too, making the mood even better. Especially on a nice-weather day, this is the kind of atmosphere anyone looking for outdoor seating (yajang) in Seongnam would love!

Dogs were welcome in the outdoor seating
One of the reasons I wanted to visit this place was that I could bring Rocky. As of my visit, dogs were only allowed in the outdoor yajang seating — not indoors, but in the outdoor area alongside everyone else.
I kept Rocky comfortably seated in his carrier bag right next to us. There are plenty of dog-friendly cafés in Seongnam, but places where you can do chimaek in outdoor seating and still bring your dog along are not so common.

That's what I really liked about this place. Since pet policies can change depending on when you visit, I'd recommend checking beforehand.
Jangjakgun's menu and draft beer prices
You order from the table using the menu, and there were quite a few types of nurungji chicken. From the basic hanbang (herbal) nurungji chicken to corn, cheese, and green onion versions, there's plenty to choose from. We couldn't pick just one, so we went with the half-and-half nurungji chicken! We also added rice balls and two draft Hanmaek beers.

Per the menu board pictured, draft Hanmaek 420cc is ₩4,500. Nurungji chicken with draft beer — how could I resist that combo, haha.
Draft Hanmaek beer in the outdoor seating
The cold draft Hanmaek beer came out first! Sitting in the outdoor seating and taking that first cold sip felt like the real start of chimaek. Since this isn't regular fried chicken but wood-fired nurungji chicken, I personally thought it paired even better with draft beer.

If you're looking for a spot for chimaek near Dandaeogeori or outdoor seating in Seongnam, I'd recommend this combo.
The rice balls and side dishes we ordered
The basic side dishes were pickled radish, yeolmu kimchi, salad, and sauces. We also added rice balls to eat alongside the chicken. There's some fun in shaping them yourself, and eating them with the chicken sauce afterward turned out to be a pretty great pairing. Especially after a bite of the spicy sauce, a bite of rice ball hit just right!

How did the half-and-half nurungji chicken look?
Finally, the main dish arrived. The moment I took the photo, I thought — this visual is on point. One side had a spicy-sweet sauce piled with corn,

and the other side was covered in melted cheese, so we could enjoy both flavors at once. Especially while the chicken was still hot, lifting a piece made the cheese stretch dramatically — the visual was perfect! It looks great in photos, but this is definitely something you need to catch on video.
Cheese + chicken combo
Pulling apart the chicken meat, the inside was pretty moist. Piling on the melted cheese and dipping it in the sauce brought together moist chicken, savory cheese, and spicy-sweet sauce all at once.

There was plenty of corn too, adding a nice pop of texture. And the real highlight of nurungji chicken is the crispy scorched rice underneath! After finishing the chicken and sauce, scraping up the nurungji at the bottom was more filling than I expected. With the rice balls too, it felt like a pretty generous meal for two.

Outdoor seating in Seongnam with Rocky
What I especially loved about this evening was getting to have dinner with Rocky. Not at a dog café, but at a regular Dandaeogeori restaurant's outdoor seating — Rocky right beside us while we enjoyed nurungji chicken and draft beer. The whole atmosphere was just great.
As the weather cools down, this kind of outdoor seating feels even more appealing than eating indoors. For anyone who, like me, brings their dog along, this is a good reference point when looking for dog-friendly restaurants or outdoor seating in Seongnam.
Overall thoughts on Jangjakgun, a Dandaeogeori restaurant
If you're looking for something different in fried chicken near Dandaeogeori, Jangjakgun is a good place to try nurungji chicken.

Our combo of half-and-half nurungji chicken, rice balls, and two draft Hanmaek beers worked really well together. If you like cheese, make sure to try the stretchy cheese part while it's still hot.

Above all, when I visited, dogs were allowed in the outdoor seating, so I could enjoy the meal with Rocky by my side. If you want a draft beer in outdoor seating in Seongnam or are looking for a restaurant near Dandaeogeori, this is a great place to visit on a nice evening :)
