Icheon Korean restaurant with private family rooms: Baekonjeong Yeomso

In short

Baekonjeong Yeomso is a Korean restaurant on Jeungsin-ro in Icheon, Gyeonggi, specialising in yeomso-tang (goat soup) and goat salad. Before giving birth, the writer gathered her family in a private room and ordered the goat soup set meal at 22,000 won per person, which brought goat soup, goat salad, hot-pot rice and scorched rice with no gamey smell at all. For a restorative family meal in Icheon, Baekonjeong Yeomso works even for first-time goat eaters.

I tried goat soup for the very first time in my life to get my body ready before giving birth! Becoming a mom really isn't easy — apparently it makes you start eating foods you never used to touch, haha :) A lot of people can't handle goat meat, so let me share my satisfying meal at Baekonjeong Yeomso ✨

Where is Baekonjeong Yeomso? Hours and parking in Icheon

Baekonjeong Yeomso is on the 1st floor at 215 Jeungsin-ro, Icheon, Gyeonggi, and is open every day from 10:00 to 21:00. Last order is at 20:30.

Spacious parking lot at Baekonjeong Yeomso

The parking lot was really spacious, and we drove there ourselves, which made things convenient.

The private room at Baekonjeong Yeomso for family gatherings

The inside of Baekonjeong Yeomso is clean and even has private rooms, so my family and I visited as a group and could eat quietly — a very satisfying space. We came for an early weekend lunch, but there were already quite a lot of customers.

Basic side dishes set out in advance

The basic side dishes were already set out, and whether it was garlic scapes or sweet potato stems, the side dish was delicious too.

Special sauce for dipping goat meat

Dipping the goat meat in this special sauce hit the seasoning just right — delicious!

Goat extract served as a pre-meal service

Goat extract served before the meal

The pre-meal service turns out to be goat extract〰️ They give you one whole serving per person, but since I'm pregnant they told me not to drink it, so I gave both of mine to my husband haha. It's freshly brewed so it's extremely hot — be careful holding the cup 🔥

What comes with the 22,000 won goat soup set meal

What we ordered was the goat soup set meal at ₩22,000 (goat soup + goat salad + hot-pot rice provided), one per person. For what comes with the set, the price wasn't bad at all.

Adding vinegar and ginger to the special sauce

A tip before the goat soup arrives: add a little vinegar and ginger to the special sauce provided — it's delicious that way.

Earthenware pot of goat soup topped with chives and perilla powder

Goat soup simmered in a 16-herb broth

The goat soup came out first ✨ topped with plenty of chives and perilla powder, plus ginseng on top — the earthenware pot is extremely hot, so be careful. The broth is made from 16 different medicinal ingredients, obviously different from an ordinary broth, and it's a fantastic dish for body recovery.

Hot hot-pot rice included with the set meal

For the hot-pot rice, they had us transfer the rice out first, then pour in broth, and wait. The rice was perfectly fluffy and delicious :)

Substantial goat meat inside the soup

The meat in the goat soup was really substantial and tender. Dipped in the special sauce from earlier, the seasoning was spot on! Since it was my first time with goat soup, I was worried about a gamey smell that might put me off, but there was zero smell — just nutty and savory, pass 👏🏻 The broth looks dark, but for someone like me who likes strong seasoning, it wasn't as strong as expected, so I burned through the sauce — total game-changer >_<

A plate of goat salad included in the set meal

Goat salad: a big portion packed with minari (water dropwort)

Since the goat salad (yeomso-muchim) came included in the set, I expected a small portion, but I was surprised by how generous it actually was.

Goat salad piled high with minari

It's piled high with minari (water dropwort), and since it's seasoned with a different sauce from the special dipping sauce, it had even more depth of flavor and an addictive taste. And the meat — need I say more — was tender, tore apart easily, and had zero chewiness. This was my first time trying goat salad and I'm officially a fan 🥹

Scorched rice served at the end of the meal

Finishing with scorched rice and dessert tea

Scorched rice (nurungji) at the end warmed my stomach up nicely — it was nuttier than I expected, and even though I don't usually finish this kind of dish, I polished off the whole bowl.

Dessert bokbunja and plum tea

For dessert there's bokbunja (black raspberry) tea and plum tea, and both were milder than expected, which seemed good for the older folks in the family to drink.

Packaged goat extract set box

Restorative sets, extract sets and the verdict on Baekonjeong Yeomso

Since it was Chuseok, they were also selling body-recovery sets and extract sets — apparently goat extract is especially good for women. My mom got hooked after trying it and suddenly ordered two boxes, haha.

A great place for a family gathering focused on body recovery. I was worried since we don't eat much goat meat, but everyone cleaned their plates so happily — menu pick: success. It made for a genuinely good day 👼🏻 Baekonjeong Yeomso is listed on the Blue Ribbon Survey, the set meal composition is excellent, and even people hesitant about goat soup will likely love it once they try it. If you're looking for the best goat soup or goat salad in Icheon, I recommend this place 😇
