Barrier repair facial after peeling irritation in Seongnam: Stern

Has your face ever completely broken down while you were at a dermatology clinic? That happened to me recently.

I'd switched dermatology clinics and signed up for an extraction package that included weekly peels, and one day even plain cream started stinging when I applied it... I stopped the extractions after that, but I struggled for a whole month before I found out Stern Clinic specializes in problem skin and went to check it out.

Today I'll cover the location and parking, what I heard in the consultation, the actual treatment I received, and how my skin looked a week later!

Stern Clinic location, parking, and the car lift warning

It's on the 4th floor of Donghyun Plaza Building, 11 Baekhyeon-ro101beon-gil, Bundang-gu, Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi-do. Just 50m from Exit 2 of Sunae Station on the Suin-Bundang Line — practically right at the station.

You can park in the building's underground lot. It's free for 2 hours, and they give you a parking coupon if you go over.

The underground lot uses a car lift, so electric vehicles, large cars over 3000cc, RVs, SUVs, and trucks can't enter at all. The lift capacity is 2,000kg, so only small-to-mid-size passenger cars can get in.

If your car can't use the lift, park in whatever open spots are on B1, or if the lot is full, use the MS Plaza parking lot nearby — it's 120m from Stern Clinic.

A German flag at the entrance, and the interior vibe

The second I walked in I thought I'd wandered into a hotel. The marble-patterned floor was so glossy the lighting reflected right off it.

A crystal chandelier hangs from the ceiling, and even the walls are curved instead of angular. The whole place is dimmed down and lit mostly with indirect lighting. There's a German flag right at the entrance! You can tell right away it's a system that came from Germany.

The waiting area has a sofa and chairs. One wall is lined with framed certificates — German school diplomas and completion certificates.

The treatment rooms are private, one person each. You change into a gown and slippers and put your clothes in a cabinet inside the room. Each room has its own door so you never run into other clients. The hallway is long and quiet. There's a full-length mirror and a vanity inside the treatment room too, which made it easy to fix myself up before leaving.

A 4-stage skin diagnosis and a 20-minute consultation with the director

The first thing they do is take a photo of your face. But before that, they disinfected the part of the machine that touches your face right in front of me. Of course they'd disinfect other areas too, but seeing it done in person was reassuring — especially since my skin was in a sensitized state at the time.

The diagnosis has four stages.

Stage 1 is a survey, and the director handles stages 2 and 3 herself. Stage 4 happens once you're in the treatment room. I got about 20 minutes of consultation with the director alone. She went through my questionnaire answers point by point, asking follow-up questions and recording everything.

For reference, she told me the director doesn't sit in on every single session — just at the start and the end of a package.

When I saw the results from the scanner photo, honestly, it was rough...

• Pores: Large
• Wrinkles: Deep
• Pigmentation: Pronounced
• Sebum: Normal

The score compares you against the average for your age group, and everything except sebum came back bad ㅠㅠ But there was something I really liked here.

Instead of stopping at "this is bad," she explained why each score came out the way it did by looking at it again under a microscope.

My pigmentation score was high, and while I do have some melasma, she said most of what she was seeing was protective pigmentation caused by damage. She also pointed out atopic-looking discoloration around my eyes, which she said contributed to the high score.

Same with the wrinkles. If they were age-related wrinkles, they'd typically cluster in a particular area — but mine didn't, which she said meant it wasn't purely aging. She was basically looking out for my mental health too haha.

Here's the overall diagnosis.

• The skin barrier is damaged, so moisture and oil levels are low
• There's textural roughness from hypersensitivity-related damage
• There's trouble that's become fixed from extractions
• The center of the forehead is especially sensitized

Peels have to stop completely — she even checked my home routine

After checking my forehead under the microscope once more, she asked if I'd been getting peels focused on the forehead area. When I thought back, I remembered — yes, they'd gone over my forehead and the area near my nose an extra time!

She also checked my everyday habits and skincare routine.

• Stop peeling treatments completely
• Even when getting extractions, no squeezing — only major inflammation should be touched
• For now, use products with no active ingredients

She looked at the cleanser and lotion I'd been using regularly too. I had a lotion I kept reapplying that didn't list its full ingredients, so she only glanced at it and said something with zero active function would be better for my current state. I put that cream away that same day and went back to Cetaphil.

The Extreme Super Repeed treatment, step by step

What I received was called Extreme Super Repeed. It's designed for regenerating both epidermis and dermis, but she said today would focus mainly on the epidermis.

Once inside the treatment room, they do the Stage 4 diagnosis — cleansing followed by UV inspection. What looks like red dots on the blue screen is sebum, and you can also see pigmented scarring.

Here's the treatment order. Some of the machines couldn't be photographed, so I only took photos of what I could.

What surprised me most was the pressure — she barely touched my skin even while cleansing. I kept thinking, is this actually cleansing anything? But you could feel how gently and thoroughly she was working. She said a lot of clients with problem skin come here, so they keep the pressure to a minimum compared to other places. It made me feel bad for my past self, scrubbing away during lazy cleansing sessions lol.

Afterward they gave me a portioned-out set of products to use — cleanser, ampoule, and a cream. I remember the therapist being worried that the cream might be too much stimulation for my skin right now. All these products can be purchased — either shipped from the shop or bought through their website.

One week after the treatment: what happened to the bumpy texture on my cheeks?

I booked for 3pm and walked out at 5:38pm. Both the consultation and the treatment were incredibly thorough! They said it can take up to 3 hours, so keep that in mind if you're going in for your first consultation!

Honestly, right after the treatment I was fine, but that night I got excited and switched over completely to the products the clinic gave me. I knew there could be some irritation after a treatment, but I wasn't careful about it (I even applied the cream she'd warned me about) and it stung a bit. Once I went back to being careful the next day, though, it really did calm down a lot after a week!

There was this bumpy texture on the front of my cheeks that was hard to even call acne. When I asked about it during the treatment, she said it wasn't something to extract — it needed calming instead — and now it's almost completely gone.

I only had one session, but the biggest takeaway was learning how to handle my face when it's sensitized. I've started applying my cleanser and lotion much more gently. I think that's helped keep the damage from getting worse.
