Dongtan Mokdong pork cutlet with a toddler booster sofa: Kkot Gatsu

Picking a menu for a family dinner is surprisingly hard — it has to suit adult tastes, kids have to actually eat it, and if it's too spicy or heavy the options shrink fast. So this time I took my kids to Kkot Gatsu Dongtan Main Branch in Dongtan Mokdong!!! My kids love pork cutlet (donkatsu) so I went in with expectations, but it was so much more tender than I imagined, and they sat still eating the whole time — I was really satisfied. Let me introduce this Dongtan restaurant :)

Where is Kkot Gatsu Dongtan Main Branch, and how is parking and the weekday evening wait?

Kkot Gatsu is a pork cutlet restaurant in Dongtan Mokdong. You can park on the roadside or at a nearby public parking lot!!

On the weekday evening we visited, the roadside was full of cars, so we parked in the public lot. I thought there'd be a parking fee, but it's free on weekdays!!!!

We arrived around 5:30pm on a weekday and got seated right away since it wasn't busy, but a little after 6pm, a lot of families started showing up. I heard the wait is long for both lunch and dinner on weekends too, so plan for some wait time!! There are benches and chairs set up beside the restaurant, so you can sit while you wait :)

Why Kkot Gatsu works with kids: the toddler booster sofa

Pork cutlet is a menu kids tend to eat relatively well, so it's a good pick for family dining, but sometimes the breading is too thick or the meat too tough and kids spit it out. At Kkot Gatsu, though, from the moment the food arrived until they finished, my kids didn't leave their seats once and ate really well. I think that's a sign of how crispy the coating and how tender the meat were for kids.

There were baby chairs available, but they also had toddler booster seats(?) so my kids could sit comfortably and eat. I used one for the first time — even without a baby chair, placing it on a regular chair brought the kids up to table height, making it easy for them to eat!!

Kkot Gatsu menu and the self-serve cumin dip

We wanted to try a variety of flavors, so we ordered kkot katsu, premium sirloin katsu, and cheese katsu. Since eating only pork cutlet felt like it might get a bit greasy, we also ordered cold soba noodles.

Kids' tableware, extra bowls, and a variety of sauces are all available to grab yourself at the self-serve bar.

I was especially surprised to find cumin there, and pairing it with the cutlet was tastier than expected. My first kid tried it once and must have liked it... kept dipping everything in the cumin only^^

How tender is the pork cutlet?

The food came out quickly, about 10 minutes after ordering~~ What satisfied me most about Kkot Gatsu was how truly tender the meat was.

Fried dishes like pork cutlet can easily end up greasy or dry, but the meat in every Kkot Gatsu dish was overall moist and tender, so the kids found it easy to eat.

The cheese katsu that vanished the moment it landed

The cheese katsu vanished the second it was served!!! My kids ate it up so fast that next time, I'm planning to order a whole extra one. If you're visiting Kkot Gatsu with kids, I definitely recommend ordering the cheese katsu~~

Pork cutlet with cold soba noodles: how the pairing works

Eating only pork cutlet can start to feel a bit greasy, and that's when a bite of cold soba makes the combo SO NICE~~~~ It's not too intense, with just the right hint of wasabi and a slightly bitter note, so it never felt boring alongside the cutlet. It especially cuts through the greasiness, so I recommend the pork cutlet + cold soba combo at Kkot Gatsu!!

In terms of tenderness, the premium sirloin katsu was the softest, followed by the tenderloin. Cheese is a kid favorite so it's basically a must-order~~~~

Honestly, I thought we'd be eating for a while after the food arrived, but no lie... we cleared all 4 dishes in 15 minutes.. finished the rice with the cutlet and even the cold soba ^^
