Solo Korean BBQ after work in Yeonsinnae with free yukhoe: Sambaek
In short
Sambaek Hanu Daecheop is a Hanwoo (Korean beef) BBQ restaurant at the entrance of the Yeonsinnae Station Exit 7 food alley in Eunpyeong, Seoul. After a rough day at work, the writer ordered the hanu saeng-deungsim bansang (raw sirloin set) for ₩42,000 and a bottle of Saero soju for ₩5,000, and ate until full thanks to complimentary yukhoe (raw beef tartare) and doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew), plus an 8-minute-preheated stone plate and ₩1,000 refillable green onion kimchi. Great value and generous service make it a solid pick for beef cravings in Yeonsinnae.

It was one of those days I got wrecked at work.. cooking dinner felt like way too much effort and I was in a funk, so I ran — literally ran — straight to beef. Here's my review from Sambaek Hanu Daecheop, famous for great value beef, where I got free yukhoe and doenjang stew and ate until I was stuffed ♥

Sambaek Hanu Daecheop is a 2-minute walk from Exit 7 of Yeonsinnae Station, right at the entrance of the Yeonsinnae food alley, so it was super accessible. I was starving and worn ragged after work.. being so close to the station was such a relief.
Since it's a fairly new beef restaurant, the interior was really clean!! It's set up with standard 4-person tables, but there's plenty of seating and tables can be pushed together, so it seems like a great spot for group gatherings or work dinners 〰️

It seems to be gaining a reputation as a must-visit spot in Yeonsinnae lately — even when we visited, two other tables had reservations. Dinnertime definitely gets crowded, so booking ahead seems like a good idea ..★
Sambaek Hanu Daecheop menu: the sambaek bansang set is the best value

As expected from a beef specialist, there were menus for all sorts of cuts ♪₊˚. Happy dilemma begins~! I'd heard that at Sambaek Hanu Daecheop, the sambaek bansang set has the best value and composition, and that if you're still hungry after that, it's more worthwhile to add extra items separately.

And get this — order the sambaek bansang set and they give you doenjang jjigae and yukhoe for free •• ♥ ✔️ On top of that, if you also join the Naver receipt event, they throw in mul-naengmyeon (cold noodles) too… Owner, are you sure you're breaking even ???????

We ended up ordering the hanu saeng-deungsim bansang for ₩42,000 and Saero soju for ₩5,000 ੈ✩

The real kick was the side dishes: pa-muchim and green onion kimchi
Basic banchan set before the meat arrived. Kimchi, pickled onions, peppers, baek-kimchi (white kimchi), kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi), and more — perfect side dishes to go with meat! But honestly, the banchan here was way beyond expectations,,, I wasn't expecting much but I was totally caught off guard by how good they were. Let me introduce them..👇🏻

Pa-jeolim? Pa-muchim? In Gyeongsang-do we call it 'pa-jorae-gi,' but nobody in Seoul had a clue what I was talking about,,🫠 Anyway, this seasoned green onion salad eaten with meat is absolutely the best!

But the real kick here is this green onion kimchi..... eaten with beef, it's genuinely the ultimate combo ★ Everyone should know it's the sexiest combo right after Chapagetti and green onion kimchi... I told the owner how delicious the kimchi was, and they said it used to be unlimited refills, but so many customers kept refilling endlessly and leaving food behind that they now charge ₩1,000 per refill ㅠ They pack the refill really generously though, so definitely get one.

8-minute stone plate preheat, hanu saeng-deungsim bansang ₩42,000
It's been a while since I've seen a place serve meat on a stone plate!

Here, the owner sets a timer for exactly 8 minutes and tells you to let the stone plate heat up fully before putting the meat on. I was starving, but I waited out the trust-filled 8 minutes, believing it'd be even more delicious..

🏷️Hanu saeng-deungsim bansang / ₩42,000 + yukhoe + doenjang jjigae. While it was preheating, today's star finally showed up~ The marbling on the meat is so gorgeous my mouth started watering the second I saw it,, sirloin served generously on a huge plate! Passed the visual test, right?

Complimentary yukhoe and doenjang jjigae
The fact that this is free is just unbelievable •• 💦 It looks like the ₩20,000 yukhoe you'd find at a bar,, tastier than I expected, which surprised me! Topped with radish sprouts and sesame seeds so it looked even more appetizing, and it had a sweet, savory seasoning that kept going down even when I was already full ㅋㅋㅋㅋ

Following the yukhoe, the free doenjang jjigae showed up too~! Truly an endless blessing of complimentary dishes.. Not a watery, flimsy stew but a rich, hearty doenjang jjigae — spooning it in between bites of meat was absolute bliss 😋 It was exactly the style of doenjang jjigae perfect for a doenjang-sulbap (rice mixed with stew and soju).. and as I wrote that, I checked the menu again and — they actually sell doenjang-sulbap? ㅎㅎㅎ
Saero couldn't be missing ~ I'm the type who can't drink any soju besides Saero.

How was the sirloin's doneness and portion size?
On the fully preheated stone plate after 8 minutes, they grill the sirloin beautifully for you! You know beef tastes best when it still has a hint of pink rather than being cooked all the way through •• ♥

Maybe because the grill plate is good, but the sirloin was cooking really nicely ♪₊˚. Sambaek Hanu Daecheop offers great value but never compromises on quality since they use only domestic Hanwoo beef.

Once it's cooked just right, they move it onto a mini metal plate and give it a light extra sear each time you take a piece, making the doneness even more perfect haha 🤭 I thought I'd need to order more if the portion was small, but it turned out to be quite generous, and with the yukhoe and stew too, I was already full..

Cleansing my palate with yukhoe in between bites — maybe because it's so fresh, there was zero gaminess, and the distinctly sweet seasoning was so delicious that even I, someone who's lukewarm on yukhoe in general, thoroughly enjoyed it!

Washing away today's blues with delicious beef and soju •• guess I'll go back to being a worker ant tomorrow (?)

The pepper was seriously spicy ❗️ And that's exactly why I loved it..

Kind of wanted to ask if they could ship the green onion kimchi to my house, like how those great soy-marinated crab places let you order delivery after finishing your meal..

This side dish was also delicious eaten together. Such a happy dinner, the end ••
A Yeonsinnae beef spot worth going back to?
Great value, top-quality beef, and generous service on top of that — living near Yeonsinnae, this is definitely a repeat spot for me! If you're looking for a good beef restaurant in Yeonsinnae, I highly recommend Sambaek Hanu Daecheop 😆 ♥
