Today I visited Gankeun Galbi Seongseo Branch, a well-known spot in Igok-dong, Dalseo-gu, Daegu. When you're going out for meat with kids, taste matters, but so does whether there's a playroom or easy parking so you can actually eat in peace. The tables inside were neatly arranged, and the space between tables was generous, making for a relaxed, comfortable meal.

And the best part was that there's a kids' playroom! It was really great for visiting with children.

It wasn't just a small corner set up as a token play area —

it was actually a good size, with big play equipment the kids could run around on, so they had a great time playing while we ate.

The self-serve bar had such a variety of dishes too!

The self-serve bar had everything from tasty fried food to seasoned chicken and tteokbokki (stir-fried rice cakes) — just looking at it made my mouth water. With so many different dishes laid out, there was fun in picking and choosing what to eat 👍

Starting with pork belly and makchang

🥩 First up, delicious pork belly and makchang! Of course you have to start with pork belly at a meat restaurant! I took a bite of the golden-brown grilled pork belly and could really taste that savory flavor 🥩🥩

Grilling it crispy on the outside and keeping it juicy inside made it even better.

It was great wrapped in lettuce with all sorts of sides, but even the well-grilled pork belly on its own was so savory I kept reaching for more. It was a good place for a drink alongside the meat, and just as good for a hearty meal with family.

What I liked about Gankeun Galbi Seongseo Branch is that it doesn't feel like just a meat meal — there's a whole range of food to enjoy together.

Between the side dishes to go with the meat and the actual meal items, eating a bit of everything turned into a pretty hearty spread.

If you come with kids, it also seems like a good setup for everyone to pick out what they each want to eat.

The main event: marinated pork ribs

Today's main dish, the ribs, couldn't be left out!

I tried the ribs at Gankeun Galbi Seongseo Branch, and yes, they really were good. Watching the ribs turn golden-brown on the grill had my mouth watering before I'd even taken a bite 👏

One bite in, the meat was tender and juicy, with a savory flavor that came through more the more I chewed, and the sweet, umami-rich seasoning paired perfectly with the ribs — genuinely delicious 👍

The seasoning was soaked right into the meat, so it was tasty on its own, and wrapping it in lettuce with garlic gave it a whole different appeal.

Finishing with ramyeon cooked at the table

To finish, there was also ramyeon (instant noodles) at the self-serve bar that I could cook myself. Pairing it with the nicely grilled ribs was a really great combination. After all that rich meat flavor, finishing with the ramyeon broth made the meal feel complete and thoroughly satisfying.
