Jincheon-dong, Daegu soup restaurant: ginseng seolleongtang at Samsol

On Sunday I went with my mom for lunch to Samsol Gamjatang Main Branch in Sangin-dong :)

Samsol Gamjatang's address puts it in Sangin-dong,
but since Sangin-dong is divided into a pretty wide area spanning dong 1, 2, and 3, the actual location is closer to Jincheon-dong and Dowon-dong! So it's a great spot not only for people in Sangin-dong but also for anyone looking for a gamjatang (pork bone soup) place near Jincheon-dong or Dowon-dong :)
Where do you park at Samsol Gamjatang?
We visited around 2pm on Sunday! You could park either right in front of the restaurant or in the nearby alleys. Luckily there was a spot right out front when we arrived, so we could park right away :)
What the dining room feels like inside
Walking in, there were already about 5-6 tables eating.
The interior combined deep teal tiles with wood, and the calm teal paired nicely with warm wood-toned tables and chairs, giving the whole space a clean yet cozy feel :)
The walls were bright white, which made the teal tiles and wood stand out even more, giving off a clean, modern vibe! The AC was blasting nicely too, so it was comfortable to eat. But what I remember most was how kind the staff were 👍🏻 They greeted us warmly as soon as we walked in, and I noticed they were just as friendly with other customers too 😊
On one side there was a self-serve coffee machine for after the meal, and I saw quite a few customers grabbing a cup after finishing up.
Menu and prices at Samsol Gamjatang
I ordered ugeoji bone soup (우거지뼈해장국) for 10,000 won, and my mom got beef brisket seolleongtang (양지설렁탕) for 10,000 won. Besides gamjatang and bone soup, there was also seolleongtang, naengmyeon (cold noodles), and yukhoe bibimbap (raw beef bibimbap) on the menu, and
there was even a Western-style king pork cutlet. Looked like a good place to bring a kid who's not into gamjatang or bone soup too!
What comes with the meal: banchan and table setting
While we waited after ordering, they set us up with side dishes, small plates, and a bowl for the bones.
They also brought mustard sauce for dipping the bone meat. It just wouldn't feel right eating bone soup without this mustard sauce haha
Whole ginseng in the beef brisket seolleongtang
Since the ugeoji bone soup took a bit longer to cook, my mom's seolleongtang came out first!
Inside the milky broth were beef brisket, glass noodles, and green onion, and what I found a bit surprising was
there was ginseng in there too! I'd never seen ginseng in a seolleongtang before, so that was interesting 👀
They also gave us dadaegi (spicy seasoning) and salt so we could adjust the seasoning to our taste,
so we could add as much as we wanted 😊
How big is the ugeoji bone soup pot, and how much meat is on the bones?
After waiting a bit more, my ugeoji bone soup arrived too 😆
Seeing it in person, I was a little surprised haha. It looks small in the photo, but the stone pot was actually bigger than my spread-out palm!
Inside the big stone pot were one large bone, one small bone, and ugeoji (seasoned napa cabbage) haha
I started with the big bone and picked off the meat,
and eating the meat together with rice was, as expected, so good 😆
I also ate the ugeoji in between bites, and the broth-soaked ugeoji, bone meat, and rice went really well together. After finishing the big bone, I picked at the small one too,
and small didn't mean less meat — there was quite a lot attached, so I stayed full and satisfied all the way through. Dipping it in the mustard sauce and eating it with rice, I finished off the whole pot feeling really full!

Samsol Gamjatang Main Branch, where I went for Sunday lunch with my mom! The clean interior, kind staff, and above all the impressive size of the ugeoji bone soup pot stood out 👍🏻 There was plenty of meat on the bones too, so eating it with rice and ugeoji made for a really hearty meal 😊
As an opening special starting September 15th, 3 servings of ugeoji bone soup to go cost 25,000 won, so keep that in mind!
