Hapjeong shabu-shabu with fish balls and chili sauce: Nahonsha

In short

Nahonsha is a solo shabu-shabu restaurant on Dokmak-ro near Hapjeong Station in Mapo, Seoul. On this visit Nahonsha's clear broth shabu-shabu and spicy broth shabu-shabu were ordered one each, with extra fish balls dipped in chili sauce, and the spicy broth sharpened with cheongyang chili powder was the favorite. Every seat has its own induction stove and tablet, so Nahonsha works just as well for solo dining as for a date.

Nahonsha, a solo shabu-shabu restaurant near Hapjeong Station for solo meals or dates

Today I visited Nahonsha, a shabu-shabu spot in Hapjeong. It's great for eating alone, but it's also a solid date course since you and a friend or partner can each pick a broth that suits your own taste — it's a solo shabu-shabu restaurant where everyone gets their own pot!

Interior atmosphere of Nahonsha
Clean interior seating at Nahonsha

The interior felt upscale and clean, so it seemed like a good spot for a blind date in Hapjeong too~ And the location is really close to Hapjeong Station, so accessibility is top notch 👍🏻👍🏻

Solo seat with its own induction stove and tablet

Every seat has its own induction stove and tablet, so you can order comfortably right from your spot. Of all the shabu-shabu places I've tried near Hapjeong Station, this one had the cleanest space and the best atmosphere 😊😊

Nahonsha's broth options and what we ordered

True to its reputation as a top shabu-shabu spot in Hapjeong, Nahonsha has a huge variety of broths — everything from the basic clear broth to mala, tomato, and sukiyaki, so there's real fun in picking whatever suits your mood! We went with the two best-menu items, one clear broth shabu-shabu and one spicy broth shabu-shabu!

Self-serve sauces at Nahonsha: soy, peanut and chili

After we ordered, they brought out sauce containers for us to fill! There are three basic sauces ready to go — soy sauce, peanut sauce, and chili sauce. I'm someone who feels genuinely let down eating shabu-shabu without chili and peanut sauce, so having both here made me so, so happy..😳😳

What does Nahonsha's clear broth shabu-shabu taste like?

Finally, the food arrives! ✨ There's the clear broth shabu, simmered cleanly with kelp, bonito flakes, and chicken stock, and the spicy broth shabu, spiced up nicely with cheongyang chili powder!

Once the broth comes to a boil, you just add the prepared ingredients. Fresh meat and vegetables come standard, plus a full kalguksu (knife-cut noodle) portion, so the table looked completely packed. It's hard to believe it's a single serving, the portion is genuinely huge — perfect for when you want to eat mala tang or shabu-shabu solo in Hapjeong until you're stuffed!!

First, the clear broth shabu-shabu has a refreshing, clean taste! The more you simmer the vegetables and meat in it, the deeper the flavor gets — if you like a clean, refreshing broth, this is a flavor pretty much everyone will enjoy without complaint~~!

The meat was tender too, so dipping it in sauce along with the vegetables, it just melted in my mouth. Since the broth is so clean, you never get tired of it and keep eating..!! It's not overpowering, so it's a great Hapjeong Station shabu-shabu restaurant for a gentle reset when you're solo dining or can't decide on dinner in Hapjeong 👍

The fish balls looked so good I ordered an extra plate 🍢✨ Dip them straight into the chili sauce and it's absolute heaven — note to self: fish balls must be dipped in chili sauce..!!

The spicy broth shabu-shabu wins, with kalguksu noodles to finish

And personally, the spicy broth shabu was so good that I definitely want it again next time — the cheongyang chili powder gives it a clean, sharp heat with none of that heavy dullness, and it soaks perfectly into the vegetables and meat. It was my one pick among the shabu-shabu restaurants near Hapjeong Station 👍🏻

Kalguksu noodles boiled at the end of the meal

We finished it off perfectly by boiling up the last kalguksu noodles~~ The noodles were nice and chewy and had soaked up all the broth, making for a hearty finish to the meal.

Besides what I had, they also have mala tang and sukiyaki, so if you're trying to decide where to have dinner in Hapjeong, I'd recommend Nahonsha, a shabu-shabu restaurant near Hapjeong Station 👍🏻👍🏻
