🥖 Before heading to Mangwon Hangang Park for a picnic, I stopped by Boulangerie Copain — said to be a must-visit on any Mangwon-dong bakery crawl!

I found this place while looking for good bakeries in Mangwon-dong. Before enjoying a picnic at the Han River park, I wanted to pack some delicious bread to bring along.

What is Boulangerie Copain in Mangwon-dong like inside?

Walking into Boulangerie Copain, I saw all kinds of bread on display. From baguettes to croissants, sliced bread, and salt bread, there was so much variety it was fun just to browse. Each loaf was individually wrapped, which gave the shop a clean feel.

The shop isn't huge, but overall it was kept clean. The bread shelves were neatly arranged, making it easy to pick out what I wanted.

If you're planning a picnic at Mangwon Hangang Park, packing bread from a nearby bakery is such a good idea haha. We were also planning to spread out a picnic mat, so we picked out some bread at Boulangerie Copain.

There were all kinds of baguettes on display, and there was even a sign showcasing 11 kinds of baguettes from Seoul, which I browsed with interest. After some deliberating over what to pick, I decided on four items total.

If you're planning to visit in the evening to buy bread, this event is worth keeping in mind. Now, on to tasting the bread I packed one by one.

How does the chocolate baguette taste?

First up, the chocolate baguette from Boulangerie Copain! Adding chocolate to a baguette gave it a completely different feel from a regular one. Anyone who loves chocolate would be curious about this bread.

With chocolate inside the baguette, it's a great pick for chocolate lovers. The outside had that plain, classic baguette texture, and the added chocolate made it sweeter and easier to eat than a regular baguette.

This seemed like it would pair really well with coffee haha.

Pain suisse: buttery layers and cream

Next up, pain suisse! It's one of those items I always want to try whenever I see it at a bakery. This time I picked one up from Boulangerie Copain to bring home.

The pastry has distinct layers, giving it an appealing crispy texture. The buttery pastry paired with the sweet filling made it feel like a dessert. Crispy outside, soft inside — this was a great match with coffee.

I also tried the basil sandwich I'd picked out for the picnic. The fragrant basil flavor made it a great simple meal. Eating it as a sandwich rather than plain bread also made it feel more filling.

Last up, milk salt bread! I love salt bread, so I picked one of these too. I was curious how a milk salt bread would differ from a regular one.

It had that nutty flavor typical of salt bread, with the added softness of milk, making it pleasantly mild to eat.
