Restaurant near AK Plaza in Hongdae, Seoul with no 6pm wait: Omil
In short
Omil Hongdae is a Western-style restaurant on the second floor near AK Plaza in Hongdae, Seoul, 2 minutes from Hongik University Station Exit 4. Arriving just before 6pm on a weekday meant walking straight in with no wait, and the table was packed by 6:10 over rubber duck omurice at 16,900 won, salmon steak gnocchi at 19,900 won and an Oh! Cherry Ade at 6,900 won. The cute plating drew the visit, but the sauce and chewy texture of the salmon steak gnocchi cleared the plate.

Today I met up with a friend in Hongdae for the first time in a while and visited Omil Hongdae (오밀 홍대, Oh! Meal), near AK Plaza. It's recommendable as part of a Hongdae 'otaku course' too — here's my honest review of everything from the super cute rubber duck omurice to the salmon steak gnocchi.
To cut to the chase: I went purely for the cuteness, but ended up loving the food too and cleared every plate! I arrived right before 6pm on a weekday and got in with no wait, but by around 6:10 the place was nearly full. For anyone in a hurry, here's a quick rundown of location, waiting, and reservation info first.

How to find Omil Hongdae: 2 minutes from Hongik University Station Exit 4, near AK Plaza
Omil Hongdae is about a 2-minute walk from Hongik University Station Exit 4, making it a perfect stop after checking out the AK Plaza right by the station.

Before my friend arrived, I browsed the cute stuff on floors 2, 3, and 4 of Hongdae AK Mall, planning to have a good meal at Omil Hongdae after — hahat.

Walked in past a super cute sign!
How long is the weekday evening wait at Omil Hongdae, and can you reserve?
Every review mentioned a wait, so my friend and I headed over the moment she arrived — but arriving right before 6pm on a weekday, I got in with no wait at all! Though after about 6:10, the place filled up completely. So if you're planning to visit on a weekday but after 6pm, I'd recommend having whoever arrives first join the Catch Table waitlist.

Lunchtime slots can be booked via Naver Reservation, so if you already know your visit time, reserving ahead is a good idea too.

What to order at Omil Hongdae: rubber duck omurice and salmon gnocchi
Omil Hongdae has quite a wide menu — steak, omurice, pasta, gnocchi, soba maki (buckwheat noodle roll) and more.

Wanting both cute and delicious, we picked the following.
- Rubber duck omurice | ₩16,900
- Salmon steak gnocchi | ₩19,900
- Oh! Cherry Ade | ₩6,900

Most mains are in the ₩10,000s range so I personally thought the value was pretty good, and there are set menus too if you want sides. I was torn to the very end between the gochujang butter pasta, marked as the best menu item, and the omurice, and ended up going with the omurice — but the girls at the next table were scraping their pasta plates so happily that I decided I have to try the pasta next time.

Rubber duck omurice, 16,900 won
The rubber duck menu is exactly why I recommend Omil Hongdae for a Hongdae otaku course. Every duck looks different, which makes them so cute... you just have to take photos.

I figured it might be all looks, but the egg on top of the omurice was fluffy and thick and genuinely tasty. I assumed the inside was egg fried rice, but it turned out to be salmon fried rice, and it was really good. I ordered it for the cute visual, but ended up satisfied with the food itself too.

Salmon steak gnocchi, 19,900 won ⭐ the dish to order
And the dish I personally liked even more was the salmon steak gnocchi! It's a rosé-sauce-based gnocchi dish topped with grilled salmon. The visuals and colors are pretty and photograph well, but the sauce is genuinely delicious and the gnocchi is chewy — I ended up eating almost all of it myself, honestly...
It looks like it's all about the visuals, but it's actually skilled — I recommend picking this one.

Oh! Cherry Ade, 6,900 won
Even the drinks are cute! You really do have talent! I enjoyed the Oh! Cherry Ade, and looking at the menu there were several signature drinks like Oh! Pineapple Ade and Oh! Basil Tomato Ade too. There's a lot of Instagram-worthy stuff from food to drinks, so if you like cute things, it'll be even more fun.
Is Omil Hongdae worth a visit? Final verdict

Posters on the walls, cute interior props, ringing a bell to order — Omil Hongdae had a lot of adorable details. I originally went for the rubber duck omurice visuals, but the food wasn't just pretty, it actually tasted good, which made it satisfying. Of everything I ate, the salmon steak gnocchi is my top recommendation.
- Looking for a place to eat after checking out Hongdae AK Plaza
- Looking for a good Western restaurant near Hongik University Station
- Planning a Hongdae otaku course with a friend who loves cute food
Even on weekdays, tables fill up fast past 6pm, so if you'd rather skip the wait, I'd recommend arriving a bit early.
