Seodaemun rice bowl restaurant date: spicy butadon at Sunhui Dining
In short
Sunhui Dining is a rice bowl restaurant about five minutes from Ewha Womans University’s main gate in Seodaemun, Seoul. We ordered one 36-hour-aged butadon in the regular flavor and one spicy version, finding distinct seasoning and smoky flavors. Verdict: It is worth sharing both flavors on a date.

Sunhui Dining (순희다이닝) is a rice bowl restaurant about a five-minute walk from Ewha Womans University’s main gate. It had regular tables as well as bar seating that was good for eating alone.

How do ordering and dining work?

We ordered through the tablet on the table, where we could check photos of the dishes in advance. After ordering, we took as many side dishes as we wanted from the self-service bar at the back of the restaurant.

Every dish was cooked to order, so it took a little time for the food to come out. From the open kitchen, we could also watch the cooking process that gave the food its smoky, flame-kissed flavor.

How was the regular 36-hour-aged butadon?

The 36-hour-aged butadon (a Japanese pork rice bowl) was ₩9,500. The pork had a smoky flavor and was not overly salty, so it ate cleanly. We added pork for ₩3,500, and the wasabi gave it an extra sharp kick.

Are the spicy and regular flavors worth ordering together?

We ordered the spicy butadon for ₩10,000. Its seasoning made a different impression from the regular version, and I thought the smoky flavor came through a little more strongly in the spicy one.

For two people, I thought it would be nice to order one regular and one spicy bowl and share them. Since we added extra pork to both dishes, there was plenty of meat left throughout the meal.
